"Around a tenth of Britain’s land has been privatised since 1979. Now if councils want to buy land back they are charged extortionate prices shaped by speculation and scarcity, making it harder for them to afford to build social homes," said @hollies.bsky.social

Why a land 'fire sale' is making it impossible to build affordable homes
Decades of the privatisation of once-public land is one of the biggest barriers to meeting ambitious housing targets

@equalitytrust.bsky.social Bless the Equality Trust 4 being brave enough 2 abandon Twitter (or X as the head twit would have us call it) & it's nastiness!

I wish our government, public bodies & others would be brave enough 2 do so too.

This will help hit the owner's wealth; maybe then he'll act?

Maybe you're doing dry January, Veganuary, or trying something else to live a little better this month. You know who isn't? The richest. The UK's richest produced more carbon in 8 days than 50% of the population use in a year.

With a single change, this government will lift hundreds of thousands of kids out of poverty. Scrapping the two-child limit will lift was the best thing to come out of the last budget - and we should never go back.

The average FTSE 100 CEO is making 113 times the median full-time worker's wage – but why rely on averages? Our calculator can tell you exactly how long it'll take a CEO to get paid your salary 🫵

I can't believe privatised water would fail us in this way. Surely South East Water, which spent more on debt and dividends than infrastructure, is not to blame

What do you do when CEO pay is so out of control that your boss is paid your whole year's wage in just 29 hours? Tax it.
High Pay Centre's proposal would progressively increase a company's corporation tax the more the CEOs is overpaid.

As you're reading this — literally right now — FTSE 100 CEOs have just been paid as much as an entire year's wage for the median full time worker. After just a couple of days back. I haven't even cleared my inbox yet.

HPC data shows the FTSE 100 CEO just over two days to earn the median UK worker’s full time annual salary. Average CEO pay is £4.4m — 113× the median worker’s salary of £39,039.

With long-term wage stagnation, how can this possibly be justified?

Let's ban the super-rich making super-huge donations; parliamentarians should be accountable to the electorate, not elites. I just signed an @equalitytrust.bsky.social petition to stop them: actionnetwork.org/petitions/st... Please consider signing and sharing too

Wealth in the UK is extremely concentrated at the top: over half belongs to the richest 10%, while the richest 1% control over a fifth by themselves. But the bottom half of the population – nearly 34 million people – have less than 1/20th between them. This is bad for all of us. It has to change.

Some GOOD NEWS: this week marks the 25th birthday of the UK’s FIRST offshore wind farm! 🥳🎂

25 years ago, offshore wind was still a risky, unproven idea.

Now, the UK leads the world in harnessing clean power from our coasts. 🧵
