Human. Mostly water. Rational redneck. Breaker and Builder of Things. Occasionally amusing.
Well shit. I'm going to drop @arstechnica.com from my daily reading list and put it on the "read if I'm bored and don't care about attribution" list.

It's not enough that they apologized for misusing AI content, but that they allowed it in the first place.

See ya. Thanks for all the fish.

I'm sitting in the "recliner" in an ICU room for the night, listening to the beeps and dings of medical devices, ignored by the staff.

It's dark, my wife sleeps in a fitful, but opiated haze. Neither Clonazepam nor Crown Royal will let me sleep.

My mind wanders...

I really wish this game would be over so I could go back to my #Python project.

Spending time this week playing with projects in Rust. I appreciate the familiarity of the tools to my roots (C++, Java). A growing ecosystem of libraries to do useful stuff.

Definitely appreciate how its package system doesn't download gigabytes just to do something simple (unlike, ahem... node).

First world problem:

The Q key is going out in my mechanical keyboard. I have spare switches, but they are Cherry MX Reds and not Browns. Having 1 key that's less clicky will drive me slowly insane.

We are going for a ride on Saturday. Not far. An hour, at most, in each direction. But, it's February, and February North of the Tropics is not normally "roadster weather".

These are not normal times. We'll have a jacket and perhaps a wool blanket for a passenger. Also, seat heaters. And a flask.

Can we get Donny a preview copy of Civ 8 and let him wreck the Dev environment instead of Production?

Slogging through a book written when my parents were teens. The subject (Henry III) is as interesting as toe fungus. The words bringing Rex Anglais to life do so using a style seemingly lost among the detritus of the statistical models driving modern prose.

I love it and I can't say exactly why.

When my kids are my age, I hope they have a Dolly Parton in their lives. Whatever their name is, I hope they're as awesome as she has been in mine.

Read a #BBC article this evening referring to Andrew Mountbatten as the "former prince".

That had to feel good.

Like "#disgraced #former #president" will. Sooner the better.

And I ain't talking about Nixon, Jackson, or Cheney.

Who wants brisket or smoked pork belly? It'll be ready about noon tomorrow. Bring beer. Maybe some cole slaw, collards, or kimchi.

Every morning, my wife and the cat disagree about something. I'm not sure why she just doesn't give in to the better argument, but there's just no reasoning with my wife sometimes.

I'm planning a party. I'm not sure when it's going to occur, but I'll send out an invite. I have some nice Cabernets and a bottle of Porto from 1916 that I plan to uncork. I'm not sure that I'll have enough warning to put a brisket on, but we'll find something to nosh on.

49% of y'all are invited.

Bluesky on Web is asking my birthday. Not sure why, but it's none of their damned business. I'm a dog on the Internet and dog years are different from humans.

If this becomes enforced policy, I guess I'll go back to posting on my own social network.

I wonder if Dave Grohl sits up at night and thinks about the time that Prince covered one of his songs.

At halftime of the Superbowl. In a freaking rainstorm.

Looking up a technical question and a #stackoverflow post was the top result. Plastered over the answer was a popup suggesting I use their "AI Assist".

"How to disable AI Assist in StackOverflow"

15 seconds later...

"I don't know what you mean by AI Assist"

Why do the Carolina Panthers exist other than to be the NFL's Washington Generals? Clay Bennett should buy the team and bring them to OKC.

Do you know what's better than #TNF on #AmazonPrime? U.S. Deputy Marshall Raylan Givens on Plex, courtesy of my seedbox. 🏴‍☠️

How can I stream a TV show from the EU with better frame rates than the NFL on AWS' network?

It's not incompetence, it's malfeasance.

Tonight's rabbit hole. Random live music performance on YT where the main act brings on a guest.

Guest starts playing guitar.

Wait, what hollow body guitar has a strat neck? What is with those pickups? Who is this guy?

Down we go, Alice. What a weird tea party it is.

Hint: #phish

What keeps you up at night? Tonight, it's "What made Prince, Prince"? The dude was much more than the sum of his albums. What made that weird brilliance? What made SRV? Or von Karajan. Or... what made any of us?

Luck. And chemistry.

There, it's settled.

Thank the gods for luck, and chemistry.

I'm excited to discover @raffic.bsky.social on bsky. As a parent in the 90s/00s, I was grateful to have "Eeples and Beeneenees" on the ride to Memaw's house. Now that I'm a Pops, I want another generation dancing in unrestrained joy to Willoughby Wallaby Woo.

Merci, beaucoup.
