Ever been curious about how to start fishing in D.C.?

@samdelgado.bsky.social got to know a few local anglers — and asked them to share some tips:
'D.C. fishing is a culture': Meet some of the anglers casting into our rivers
We hit the banks of the Potomac and Anacostia with "Ernie the Hog Snatcher" and a host of other locals, who say fishing brings them peace, community, and fun.

Subscribe to 51st everyone!

If you’re in DC or the region: great reporting, human stories, worker owned.

If you’re not in DC: get to learn about all the stuff that goes on here that’s not directly federal related (though certainly inflicted a lot)
When DCist was shut down, it had 70,000+ subscribers.
The 51st is proud to carry forward the spirit with which DCist served our city.

But we can’t stop thinking about how most of those subscribers — our neighbors and friends — are just no longer receiving the kind of local news they signed up for.

Did you know there's a thriving community of anglers in DC? Whereas some people look at DC's rivers and see pollution, these fishers see potential.

I spent time with some local fisherman — including fishing influencer Ernie the Hog Snatcher — and got a close look at what fishing means to them. 🎣⬇️
Amidst the busyness of city life, D.C. anglers turn to local waterways for peace, for community, and of course, for the pure fun of fishing.

"We got one of the best fisheries on the East Coast," online creator Ernie the Hog Snatcher told reporter @samdelgado.bsky.social:
Want to go fishing in D.C.'s rivers? Here's where to start.

Gael Gomez and his family are all but certain to leave the country this week, upending the lives they’ve built in D.C.

But Mount Pleasant's 19-year-old sidewalk astronomer wants people to keep looking up — at the sky and in life.
