These two things—healthcare and veterans—are at the center of my life. I’m a healthcare attorney and a caregiver to a disabled vet.

Along with many other constituents, I demanded that Rob Wittman vote no.

He wouldn’t hear us.

So I’m trying to take his job to bring the voices of #VA01 back to DC.

Brown: In a state of 12 million people, half a million are going to lose their insurance.

People didn’t vote for that. They didn’t vote for higher grocery bills. They didn’t vote for veterans’ benefits being slashed. They didn’t vote for any of this.

Kicking millions of Americans off their health insurance doesn't mean people won't get sick.

It makes health care more expensive for everyone.

There it is: $20 billion for Argentina at the same time they’re taking markets away from our farmers.

But no $ for health insurance for Americans?

Dear Rob,

If you cared so much about the loss of SNAP and WIC benefits, you shouldn’t have voted for the Big BS Bill that indirectly cuts them both. Gaslighting will not change the truth.

Stop blaming Democrats for your party’s poor, wildly unpopular choices.

I’m not your friend,

Ericka
SNAP continues for about 30 days during a shutdown before facing disruption, while federal funding for WIC stops immediately under a shutdown, forcing the program to rely on limited local contingency funds. Without congressional action, Virginia’s SNAP and WIC recipients lose access to critical nutritional support within the first week of a prolonged shutdown. It is critical that the Senate act swiftly to ensure these benefits are not interrupted.

Virginians should not have to shoulder the burden of ineffective policymaking and political games. While House Republicans offered solutions to keep the government open and operating for the American people, Democrats in the Senate have since voted seven times against the Continuing Resolution (CR), which would fund the government. Now, our U.S. service members, air traffic controllers and many other federal employees will not receive a paycheck – this is unacceptable.

I urge Senators to come together to reopen the government and prevent more harm being done to Americans, and I am working every day to deliver solutions and provide predictability for the people of Virginia’s First District.

Sincerely,

/s/ Rob

Speaker Johnson won't swear in Rep.-elect Grijalva — who won her election two weeks ago — because she'd be the 218th vote to force the release of the Epstein files. Arizona’s 7th District deserves representation, particularly in the midst of a government shutdown. Swear her in. Release the files.

Our nation's federal employees are more than just numbers on a spreadsheet.

They make sure we have clean water.

They protect us from financial fraud.

They provide healthcare to our communities.

They make our government actually work for people.

Do not forget this.

Walkinshaw, Ranking Member Garcia Call for GAO Investigation into Vought’s Illegal Layoff Directive During Shutdown

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman James R. Walkinshaw (VA-11), Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42), the Committee’s Ranking Member, today requested the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) to investigate whether President Trump and OMB Director Russ Vought’s directive ordering agencies to issue Reduction-in-Force (RIF) notices during the GOP government shutdown violates the Antideficiency Act.

In their letter to Comptroller General Gene Dodaro, the lawmakers condemned OMB’s description of the shutdown as an “opportunity” to fire federal employees, calling the memo “legally unsupportable and unconstitutional.”

“Setting aside the abhorrent description of a GOP government shutdown as an ‘opportunity,’ this OMB memorandum rests on a legally unsupportable premise,” the Members wrote. “A lapse in appropriations suspends the availability of funds but does not repeal or nullify statutory mandates. Undefined ‘Presidential priorities’ cannot substitute for statutory direction.”

The Members urged GAO to determine whether agency compliance with OMB’s directive would constitute a violation of the Antideficiency Act, noting that the Act “does not authorize agencies to incur obligations for the purpose of planning or executing reductions in force during a shutdown.”

They emphasized that any agency implementing Trump and Vought’s directive would be breaking federal law and required to report that violation to Congress.

Their request follows reports that the Trump administration has used the shutdown to accelerate workforce reductions that have already weakened agency oversight and public service delivery.

Meanwhile, he's gutting the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section which assists U.S. attorneys’ offices around the country with investigating crooked government officials.

I am so sick of the faux outrage and idiotic blame-game from the GOP.

News flash, Rob, the GOP controls every lever of Congress and the WH. Y’all could reopen the government without support from Dems if y’all really wanted to, so spare us the garbage. We have enough trash, we need healthcare.
wittmanwatch.bsky.social
So, Rob, your party has had six months to pass a budget and avoid a government shutdown. You seem surprised that Senate Democrats stood up to try and save ACA premium support for tens of millions of Americans Are you aware that some members of Congress put everyday Americans over fealty to Trump?

Republicans won special elections in Florida, and he swore them in.

James Walkinshaw, a Democrat from VA-11, won his special election, and Mike Johnson swore him in.

What’s the hold up, Mike?
rbreich.bsky.social
Adelita Grijalva won her election to Congress over two weeks ago, but Mike Johnson still hasn't sworn her in.

Why the delay?

Perhaps it's because Grijalva would cast the final vote needed to release the Epstein files.

Winsome Earle-Sears lied about it not being discrimination to fire someone simply because they’re gay.

In Bostock v. Clayton County (2019), SCOTUS ruled that firing someone for being gay violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

It IS discrimination to fire someone for being gay, period.
