Danny Wolf is not listed on almost all top-100 draft boards, appearing only at 68th in ESPN's rankings.

Will Maluach be the next great rim protecting big? Or another center with outstanding measurables that doesn’t live up to his pre-draft standing?

So, the question is: does Maluach follow a path like Mitchell Robinson or Dereck Lively -- or more like Mo Bamba, who had incredible measurables but never fully overcame similar limitations?

That’s the Khaman Conundrum.

If Maluach doesn't make these physical developments, his game may be too limited to translate, despite the tantalizing flashes. In this case, he's likely a reserve at a non-valuable position.

But, a few swing factors will likely determine whether Maluach can overcome his deficiencies:
- Can he reduce his load time by adding core & lower-body strength -- improving the speed and versatility of how he gets off the ground (i.e. one-foot jumping)?

I do think one of the more encouraging elements of Khaman's game is his pick & roll defense -- he moves well in space for his size and has solid instincts.

He also shows flashes of soft touch and is very coordinated. He's not yet 19 & only began playing the game ~6 years ago.

Maluach posted just a 4% assist rate his freshman year and is very limited putting the ball on the deck or operating out of dribble hand-offs. He’s a pure play-finisher.

Maluach's defensive rebounding rate (19.1%) is also low. Despite his length, he doesn’t yet control the glass or rebound outside of his area.

His high center of gravity makes it easier to displace him, and his hands can be inconsistent, especially in traffic.

This protracted load time can be a problem because it makes it harder for Maluach to score in traffic on offense and causes him to over-rely on his length defensively.

He's sometimes too slow off the ground going for blocks and will only have less room for error in the NBA.

This load time shows up on offense, too.

When he has space, Maluach can elevate for thunderous dunks. But in tight spaces, the extra time he requires to gather limits his attempts.

Maluach often brings the ball well below his waist before powering up to finish:

Maluach's block rate was just 6.8%, very low for a highly regarded prospect with his measurements and role.

As a reference, recent big man prospects Dereck Lively, Mark Williams, and Mo Bamba recorded block rates of 12.7%, 11.5%, and 13.2%, respectively, in their draft seasons.

A key limiting factor in Maluach's game is his load time off the floor.

He is almost exclusively a two-foot leaper and requires time to gather.

Watch how many of his block attempts involve a distinct loading motion -- bending his knees and dropping his arms before elevating:

However, we can’t just accept Maluach's shot blocking and measurables as a predictor of success.

Digging into the film raises some questions.
