Have I mentioned my book!? It tries to inspire action by arguing we already sort-of know what needs to be done about the world's biggest problems – and have a pretty good idea of what a solution looks like. Also, economics is not what you think! www.amazon.com/How-Economic...

/2 In light of that, I am in awe and deep respect of the people who are still showing up to monitor the ICE Gestapo, protect and defend their neighbors, do whatever they can to hold ICE to account and call out their lawlessness. What incredible bravery.

These ICE agents in gas masks are so embarrassing. Nobody is gassing them. They're gassing themselves! They're like a man who wears a jock strap because he knows he'll spend all day kicking himself in the balls. (Source: www.abc.net.au/news/2026-01...)

We should all include a DO NOT READ section on our syllabi, with the texts politicians prevent us from discussing in the classroom (the complete reference with URLs and page numbers, obvs.)

Ahead of a showdown about Greenland, the EU ought to get ready to seize Trump's personal property – his hotels, golf courses, savings, anything – just like they should have seized the Russian oligarchs'. Have they mentioned this at all?

At the University of Alabama at Birmingham we had students protesting the module on evolutionary game theory on religious grounds. So we renamed it "the dynamic theory of games" and the students were none the wiser. >

One official even says Trump recently asked for updates on preparations for a possible operation.

”We’re closely monitoring the situation” is the geopolitical equivalent of ”thoughts and prayers.”
I have spoken with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and our Ambassador in Caracas. The EU is closely monitoring the situation in Venezuela.

The EU has repeatedly stated that Mr Maduro lacks legitimacy and has defended a peaceful transition. (1/2)

Great survey of world reaction.

China, Brazil and South Africa are the most pointed and principled. Russia is firmer than the snippet I saw earlier suggested.

France is unsurprisingly the strongest European reaction. Starmer and Von der Leyen competing for title of best-behaved lapdog.
