Jellyfish & sea anemones lack brains & yet seem to sleep in ways similar to humans

New findings bolster a theory that sleep evolved before centralized nervous systems to repair DNA damage that builds up in individual nerve cells while animals are awake.

“Neurons are very precious”
Jellyfish sleep like humans — even though they don’t have brains
Studying ancient sea creatures’ snoozing habits could shed light on the origins of sleep.

The Trump regime has finally admitted that DOGE stole Social Security information and shared it with an advocacy group focused on overturning election results. This comes after it blatantly lied about not doing this and persuaded the Supreme Court to issue an emergency ruling giving DOGE access.

Shrinking #coffee harvests effect more than our daily fix

Experts & orgs like @projectdrawdown.bsky.social suggest solutions like #agroforestry so @coffeewatch.bsky.social has now created a library of all research ever conducted on it, to help producers grow the finicky plant amid #climatechange:
The knowledge to save coffee already exists, now it’s in one e-library
Roughly half the world’s arabica coffee-growing regions will become unsuitable for cultivation of the crop by 2050 due to the effects of climate change. The consequences of a shrinking coffee harvest ...

Pretty pottery made by people of northern Mesopotamia ~6,200 to 5,500 BC is painted w/ flowers that have 4, 8, 16 or 32 petals, some show arrangements of 64

These show a clear understanding of symmetry & spatial division long before written numbers came into use, researchers now argue:
This ancient pottery holds the earliest evidence of humans doing math
Flower designs on 8,000-year-old Mesopotamian pots reveal a “mathematical knowledge” perhaps developed to share land and crops, archaeologists say.
