Eat shit, Pepe. Thanks to @ceaubin.bsky.social for the insight into a protest culture that might not work everywhere, but which is doing its job of breaking MAGA brains

What a start for you! Not my first purchase, but one I also bought off the rack in ‘75. Transformative in so many ways.
For a minute, I thought that was Silver Surfer, not Ice Man, prompting me to try to figure out when Adams had done an SS/X crossover. THAT would have KILLED.
A third possibility: it’s not really what most of us would call a “negotiation”
I am thrilled to report that the Faculty Senate at Southern Oregon University voted this week to confirm my nomination for our institution's annual Distinguished Teaching Award, citing my commitments to innovation & entrepreneurship, and experiential learning.

I’ve been inching away from Twitter/X for instruction for a couple of years, now also doubling down on Bluesky when teaching Multimedia Writing and Strategic Social Media
You might also consider searching for topics on Bluesky - if you find other useful accounts, then you might see some good ideas for presenting yourself here
I recommend a little detail about things you care about, especially any that you might write about for a public audience
Promising start on Bluesky for #COMM323, but please add reasonable profile text -> help make the case for why audiences might want to connect with you

So the problem with The Doctor kissing a guy is we’ve got this 60-year legacy of will-they/won’t-they with all the female companions, so we can’t compromise that lifetime of demure asexuality by hooking him up with a roguish man oh right I hear me now, never mind.
Reskeet with how old you are, using a vague proxy:

My undergrad tuition rate was $4/credit, or $1200/semester (including tuition, fees, dorm & meal plan)
Reskeet with how old you are, using a vague proxy:

I was a paperboy and spent most of my earnings on Topps baseball cards and Garbage Pail Kids cards.

I sat in the smoking section of a restaurant.
I count myself in the “dumb teenager” category - my undergraduate degree gave me some important benefits, but not everything I could have, or should have achieved. It helped me get going on a journey, but I didn’t have the vision or maturity at the time to really get the most out of it.
There’s a lot of work needed to make higher education better, and especially more affordable. But we also do a lot of good work for a lot of students, and that should also be acknowledged.
My analysis applies across the board, from elite institutions, to flagship state schools, to smaller public schools like mine, to community colleges. At every level, some students outperform my claim. And every type of institution proves effective at helping many students get to the next step
Despite my snarky tone, this is under-valued work. It’s messy + expensive + inefficient. But still better than most of the other options available for students and parents.
I will offer a similarly snarky, but slightly gentler take: what we have long done in higher ed, and continue to do, is take dumb teenagers and make them slightly less dumb. We also give them some, but generally not all of the skills they need to land an entry-level job.
