I’ll be on CBC News’s “The National” tonight at 9pm talking about the Grammys and protest music.

I must be on some sort of list, or perhaps considered handsome for Canada — I get interviewed a lot about protest music on Canadian television!

Really, from now on, I'm just going to post about music and am not going to read anything on any social media.

In his recent op-ed, Oleh Kotsyuba of Harvard University’s Ukrainian Research Institute compares the current protests in Minneapolis to Ukraine's 2013–2014 Revolution of Dignity, noting similarities in both the staging and spirit of both events.
Here's why Minneapolis reminds me of what I once saw in Ukraine

The New York-based DIY show listings zine GUNK published this list of local small-scale music venues that closed in 2025. It is so hard to keep a community-oriented music space open in this city. I really hope whoever leads Cultural Affairs for @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social will take this seriously.

It was a pleasure to share a few words about my favorite read of the year with one of my favorite podcasts, though fitting all my thoughts into 90 seconds felt like an impossible challenge. Looking forward to reading some of the books shared by others!

This semester I taught an entire lecture about John Zorn. Student feedback was just as expected. One student said Zorn “should not be studied.” Another one said Zorn was her most favorite, especially the Masada. Both quoted my article about Zorn’s open works in their final essay!

What a delightful conversation about writing history as an art. i've been thinking about this a lot and now get a specific advice on how to do this.
New! I had great fun talking w/ @drjoannepaul.bsky.social about how she embraces creativity and artistry and how she writes vividly about Tudor history. If you've ever dreamed of writing a history that reads almost like a novel, you're going to love this episode. draftingthepast.com/podcast-epis...

Arvo Pärt indeed figured out how to draw audiences to new music. From young to old, hipsters to fashion ladies to real music connosieurs. His avant-garde opuses stood the test of time. The most amazing were the violinints, Midori and Hans Christian Aavik, they showed that Tabula Rasa has future.
