On MLK Day in 2006, I saw Rev. Jesse Jackson speak at Virginia Tech. Even then, I felt the weight of that moment. I wasn’t just hearing a speaker; I was seeing someone who stood alongside Dr. King and pushed this country to confront injustice and live up to its promises. Rest in power, Reverend. ✊🏻

The Israeli government and extremist settlers are still committing violence and atrocities against innocent Palestinian civilians, as governments and major media outlets look away. History will remember who chose silence and who supported genocide.

The Potomac Interceptor ruptured on 1/19. It didn’t “become” an ecological disaster weeks later; it was a serious environmental failure from the outset.

Don’t mistake sudden interest for real leadership. Show respect to the @prknetwork.bsky.social and others who were raising the alarm from day one.

Left the group chat and hit the streets of Hagerstown. When Washington County shows up, you hear it. Great conversations with people fighting for accountability.

If the government is going to detain people, it must do it right. This morning, I submitted testimony supporting HB0630 to ensure detention facilities in Maryland meet serious, enforceable standards.

Full testimony in the link below or in the bio.

The SAVE Act isn’t about protecting elections. It’s about making it harder for eligible Americans to vote.

Requiring specific documents that millions don’t have is modern-day voter suppression, plain and simple.

If you’re confident in your ideas, you don’t fear voters. You earn them.

Happy Valentine’s Day to my forever Valentine, @courtneywechtaluk.com. Every time I hear “Love on the Weekend,” I think of us: where we started and how far we’ve come. Through every moment you’ve been my heart, my partner, and the best mother to our girls. I’m so grateful this is our life.

Record-low snowpack and record-high denial.

But the Dow hit 50K, so I assume Wall Street will start shorting precipitation.

I grew up thinking I had to hide part of who I am. I don’t anymore. I’m proud to say I’m bisexual.

Love is love. Today and always. Happy Valentine's Day to all those who are learning to love themselves.

You don’t get to run ads about defunding ICE and then pivot to “we’re prepared to fully fund DHS."

That’s not defunding. That’s managing the status quo and hoping no one catches the double-speak.

If the agency is lawless and abusive, the solution isn’t conditional funding; it’s structural change.
At midnight, funding for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security expires — and it should not be renewed without good faith negotiations from the White House and Republicans.

Thanks to documents released by N.H. Gov Ayotte and reported by Boston Globe, we get a better understanding of how ICE is planning on scaling its detention centers using its new warehouses.

We also caught a bit of interesting coordination between USCIS and ICE in the metadata >>>

I could've saved them a subpoena. Want my data? DMs are open.

But no matter what, I won’t stop: ICE and DHS need to go, and Kristi Noem should be impeached.

When elected, ending this oppression will be a top priority.

Homeland Security Wants Social Media Sites to Expose Anti-ICE Accounts
The department has sent Google, Meta and other companies hundreds of subpoenas for information on accounts that track or comment on Immigration and Customs Enforcement, officials and tech workers said.

Independent oversight is not optional. A recent opinion from @oagmaryland.bsky.social risks weakening the very watchdogs tasked with protecting taxpayers from corruption. That’s the wrong direction. Here’s my statement on why this matters and what must happen next.

When intel involving Trump’s family is handled differently, it reinforces what we already know: MAGA treats government like a personal asset. Foreign policy isn’t a family hedge fund. National security isn’t for sale.

America deserves leaders loyal to the Constitution, not their balance sheets.

The EPA just repealed the Endangerment Finding which is the legal backbone for regulating climate pollution. This action puts limits on car and power plant emissions at risk. More pollution. More extreme weather. Higher costs for families.

The climate crisis is here. We should be acting like it.

Washington County Commissioners voted to support an ICE detention center. That’s not who we are as a community.

Families don’t belong in detention camps in our backyard. We can and should demand better.

Add your name and call for the vote to be reversed.

This should make every American furious.

According to the Washington Post, the IRS improperly shared confidential taxpayer data with immigration enforcement.

This is a breach of trust at the highest level.

Shutting down El Paso’s airspace with vague “security” language and no transparency is not normal. It’s unchecked executive power and they’re testing limits.

I won’t tolerate government actions that sidestep oversight and civil liberties. If there’s a threat, prove it. If not, lift it.

From attacks on climate science to war crimes in Israel; the unaccountable power of Epstein; and state violence in Minnesota, today’s news has been brutal.

If you’re feeling angry, numb, or exhausted, you’re not weak or alone. You’re paying attention. It’s a lot for one day. Take care of yourself.

Washington County’s commissioners backed ICE and DHS. The community erupted in dissent. The livestream got cut. That’s what democracy looks like when people refuse to stay silent. Proud of our neighbors for standing up to a shameful decision.

Ring’s Super Bowl ad tried to make mass surveillance feel cute. It’s not. From Ring to Flock and other ALPRs, corporations are quietly collecting data on where we live, drive, and exist.

I’m Ethan Wechtaluk and in Congress I’ll fight for real privacy laws, hard limits, and maximum accountability.

I respect Rep. Thomas Massie and @khanna.house.gov for pushing transparency, and I hope to stand alongside them in that fight. But enough is enough. If you have the names, read them. Stop waiting for the “right moment.” Do it now. Justice delayed is justice denied.
