"I haven’t wanted a drink since Feb 28, 2008. I remember it very well. I went to inpatient rehab, & I needed it. Since then, I’ve been happy & free. If you’re still in the phase of pitiful & incomprehensible demoralization, shoot me a DM. Let’s chat. There’s a waaay better world out there."
Today is the 18th anniversary of my first day sober.

Despite no one asking, here is a thread of thoughts of a life in sobriety.

Encouraging that MAGA know they can’t date unless they hide their political opinions.

Drive it home. The moment a potential partner evinces fascist leanings, drop their ass like a hot rock.
Have you been politically catfished on dating apps? You're not alone! Listen to the response to this caller on this week's Savage.Love/Lovecast!

This is a good joke. Let me say that the recent Dune films were great right up until the MASSIVE departure from the book at the very end of the second film.

That is NOT how Chani and Paul ended up in the book, and it pisses me off.
i enjoy irritating my Dune-loving friends by calling Lady Jessica a sandwich

Pearled barley with chicken sausage, cremini, and courgette. With an heirloom tomato, basil, and nicoise olive panzanella made with homemade sourdough and balsamic vinaigrette.

Current doc’s orders are “exercise as tolerated” so today I tolerated a shy 10k.

18 years ago tonight in an airport bar in St. Louis I was having my last drink.

Well, I was having my most recent drink. And I have no intention of having another today.

Good run today. 5 miles, easy pace. HR pretty sedate. Anxiety still high after disappointing echo, but running helps.

Based on my statistical review, Dutch women named Femke with three-letter last names are very, very fast.

People with degrees from multiple institutions, which school do you think of as your Alma mater? Your bachelors, or your terminal degree?

The 2026 Barkley Marathons began with one of the strongest fields ever. The starting field came from 15 Counties as well as 15 States, and included ten women. The course seemed not to care. Over 70% of the field is done. #BM100

I discovered gochujang at age 51 and I would like to apologize to the people of Korea for sleeping on this so long.

call me what you will -- a naif, a dreamer, a starry-eyed idealist -- but i think that there *is* an ideal number of dead animals to find in your Valentine's day getaway beach house, and that number is zero.

definitely less than three.

Well my echo was not great news. Now an excruciating 2 week wait to talk to my cardiologist.

As of tomorrow, when the deposit lands, my new tiny little consulting firm is in the black, all time.

Well, my echo tech didn’t go bugeyed and flew to find a cardiologist, so at least I’m not immediately dying.

So, ANA is the best coach-class airline I’ve been on since Virgin Atlantic back in like 1996. I doubt VA is still that good.

Air France in 2012 was pretty great too.

I am genuinely fine with requiring ID for voting.

If and only if the ID is free, and there is a good faith proactive effort by the government to seek out all citizens and provide it to all citizens. And there is a low friction provisional voting system for those missed.

That won’t happen.

Every year of our relationship I write a sonnet for BB for Valentine’s.

This is this year’s.

Blood Red

I glimpsed a shocking ne’er seen bird today
Alighting on a branch above a creek
And while I love a feathered thing in gray
This scarlet faerie with its ink black beak

Missouri is one of the deepest red states in the union. Last month, I drove across the reddest red parts of Missouri. You know what I saw?

Several vast solar farms.
