Did you know Excessively Diverting has a newsletter?! It’s published irregularly when it suits my mood, but it exists! It contains hot takes, news, essays, and whatever else strikes my fancy and is too long for social media. You can sign up here 👉🏻 excessivelydiverting.substack.com.

Jane Austen tarot! Imagine my surprise when this showed up in my mailbox last week. I had completely forgotten I had pre-ordered it months ago. I like the card stock used, very easy to manipulate with shuffling and such. You should be able to find these everywhere. #TarotSky

It's Valentine's weekend! I'm working tomorrow, weekly virtual write-in on Sunday, and as for the holiday itself? No idea!

What are you doing this weekend?

Austen: Harriet Smith would throw shade on TikTok. Brontë: Catherine would attempt to be an influencer on Instagram.

The Brontë canon sorely overlooks Anne.

C’mon, most of us have thought of this a time or two.

Nottingham Forest plays today but I won’t know the score until after this has posted. I’m heading to my brother and his family this weekend to watch my nephew play basketball. (He’s 6!) I’m coming home Saturday afternoon and then back to my usual routine on Sunday.

I think I’m going to have to disagree with Austen here. If my love was disappointing, the last thing I would want to do is be friends with them. BUT! If the quote also suggests that friendship is with someone else and not with the disappointed love, I’m all in.

This meme is SO NOT WRONG.

This is my first weekend all month I’m at the library but the day is short, which works for me! Sunday is my usual morning write-in and PBS with Kristin in the afternoon. Sunday is also February 1st! Where did the time go??

Do you think our Jane would not camp, camp, or glamp?
January 26, 2026 at 12:44 PM
I’m teaching TWO classes tomorrow for two different writers group back to back so that is going to be busy! Sunday is write-in in the morning and PBS with Kristin in the afternoon. I try to make Sunday a day of no chores, but who knows what will happen.

Oh, this is easy: ROCHESTER! (Heathcliff is just misunderstood.) On the Austen side, Wickham is a walking red flag.

You do not need to even read what book this is from to know what book this is from.
January 21, 2026 at 1:58 PM
I’m all about taking time out, even for 15 minutes, if I get overwhelmed! Now that the holidays are over, getting that recharge time is a lot easier.
