More Fortemps cause I miss them

honestly it makes me laugh when people insist that zenos had anything close to sharing any ideals of the garlean empire when he literally was the main man pouring gasoline on the thing in the hopes it would burn faster
fadamniel.bsky.social
wol: that's shinryu, right
zenos: the very one
wol: shinryu, the embodiment of hatred of the garlean empire
zenos: yep
wol: and you're the garlean crown prince
zenos: that's me
wol: and you just said you're going to kin this thing
zenos: i'm going to kin it so hard

you see, i'm not like OTHER sprouts. i memorize every mechanic for every dungeon and when i get in on on roulette duty and do a dungeon i've only done once before i proceed to forget every single mechanic in the span of 0.1 seconds because i saw a giant crab and i got scared

really wish that emet had realized the Fandaniel Problem early if only because it would be like
fandaniel: life! doesn't matter! hoo hoo!
emet-selch: haha! oh what fun! so true, fellow ascian! (bending over to elidibus and whispering) we have to kill this clown right fucking now

shout out to me and the 2.5 foulques fans out there. people who are not foulques fans keep playing ffxiv for like 10 thousand more hours and then you will understand the majesty of our man of the mist

person who played 10 hours of ffxiv: you gotta get into foulques from the lancer quests
person who played 500 hours of ffxiv: you gotta get into emet-selch
person who played 20000 hours of ffxiv: you gotta get into foulques from the lancer quests

I told you I'd turn Zenos (bonus Shinryu) into Hollow Knight Bugg
fadamniel.bsky.social
i don't believe that it was a true parallel or anything, but the way the lykaones are described and how hermes talks to the one dying, and then fandaniel, despite everything he is, beelining to zenos in all his viciousness. me connecting the red line between the two. thinking
fadamniel.bsky.social
#FFXIV #FFXIVart #EndwalkerSpoilers a lingering sympathy for vicious beasts
A drawn Hermes from FFXIV is seen from the back, cradling a dying lykaon's head gently. A drawn Fandaniel is seen from the back, gesturing in front of an unamused Zenos Viator Galvus. The pose is meant to parallel with the first picture.

anyways. thank u for sticking with me through this thread!!!!🙇‍♀️...we all know what happens next after this (teenager roasting a adult man for being a selfish asshat). i love this scene so much, man. zenos one of the characters of All Time
fadamniel.bsky.social
in the end, the quote is not just supposed meta commentary but a warning in how we should not define our lives strictly through the perspective or opinions of others. we should not be so hasty as to wave off what others do if we just assume they had a "good reason" to do it
fadamniel.bsky.social
and this is where zenos states his philosophy clearly - you do not need others to give you answers. nobody - a person, an empire, a leader - can tell YOU what YOUR life means. if you want "good reasons" don't let anyone else give them to you. find them on your own
fadamniel.bsky.social
however, zenos takes a turn and lays off of jullus, saying that in the end, its only human for everyone to give their own explanations to why they do what they do. this is not wrong, and its not right, either. in the end, everyone wants to justify their own actions
fadamniel.bsky.social
zenos isn't saying this to denounce garlemald. he doesn't care about the empire and its people regardless. but in saying jullus would wear a "beast's skin" if he accepted a "good reason" for another's actions, he shows that he knows how blinded the garleans are to themselves
fadamniel.bsky.social
"if my motives met with your approval, would you no longer resent the outcome" is a callout of jullus's hypocrisy. he questions zenos as to "why" he did the horrific things he did while also giving a pass to the garlean empire for doing things for the "good" of the country
fadamniel.bsky.social
so zenos understands war and the power of garlemald's propaganda in ways jullus never will. he confirms as much when he continues, asking if jullus surely saw how his leaders used power and "good reasons" in their self-righteousness to justify their actions
fadamniel.bsky.social
so, zenos delivers his rebuttal. "would you be "happier" if i had a "good reason"?" is a direct skewer to jullus. zenos has never met jullus before, but he understands he is garlean and is certainly a soldier. zenos himself was no figurehead, but an active military leader as well
fadamniel.bsky.social
so when zenos utters that the fall of garlemald was just "wasted effort" - seeing it as a way to get the wol's attention which failed - jullus sees red. how could something so core to his beliefs, the power of the empire and the wellbeing of its people, be so useless to zenos?
fadamniel.bsky.social
but what makes zenos such a paradox is that despite being raised in such an environment with no outside influence that could sway him, zenos has absolutely no loyalty for garlemald. he could care less for furthering its ambitions unless they coincide with his own
