Oh man, I actually love this idea. Why should adults be the only ones making decisions for them? They should have a voice, and this is a great way to active them in important processes like voting at an earlier age. Give them the opportunity to buy into their future and I think you’ll be surprised.
Thank you Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez!

CM Hernandez is the 1st City of LA elected official to offer their support for allowing "residents 16 and up to vote in LAUSD Board elections to allow for representation of the people most impacted by these elections."

Some support in Los Angeles for lowering the voting age for school board elections specifically.

Some places are trying this out. Here's a piece on Newark from last year: boltsmag.org/newark-teens...

There seems to be a full-court press to get some kind of ex parte policy going at the Charter Reform Commission.

Commissioner Meza's promised motion is still MIA about 10 minutes before the meeting, but two by Commissioner Fuentes are now posted. drive.google.com/file/d/1bHT5...

Charter Reform Commissioner Martin Schlageter just resigned, saying he has a job in Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson's office.

Schlageter tells me it's a senior policy adviser position, that starts Feb. 9, that opened up over the holidays, and "it become real."

The commission is set to take up a motion by its chair, Raymond Meza, who had previously taken a hands-off approach to sharing such private conversations, saying it was up to the City Council.
