I'm developing a Super Mario 64 clone on the Dreamcast using KallistiOS and raylib (gldc). I plan on making it for the #DreamDisc 2025 competition, just a pre alpha.

So far, basic controls and camera movement has been figured out. What do ya think? :)

Yeah, I get you… because retro gamer has a loooooong history of being cool to indies and homebrew and has even covered some fan translations and work going on in the DC scene previously…. Was a HUGE honor, tbh. Also I was asked fantastic questions that were just fun to answer and show they get us.

Jeeesus. I’m going to have to post about this when I get back to my machine after my 3-day drive.

In case you haven’t already grabbed it, issue 277 of “Retro Gamer” has a full two-page interview featuring all of the epic ports that our #homebrew scene has brought to the Sega #Dreamcast lately, plus some exclusive screenshots of some hotly anticipated titles! 🔥

Oh, this is just Esppiral loading and rendering a scene from the #PS2 title, "Dragon Quest 8," on a Sega #Dreamcast, no big deal...

...WAIT, WUT?! 🤯

"Mute Crimson" from @icedlizardgames.bsky.social, captured from my Sega #Dreamcast!

This is an action-packed, precision platformer running at a solid 60FPS, with extremely responsive controls and tight gameplay mechanics. Super polished and fun to play!

It was pretty baller back in its day, in the year of our lord 2000. It's up there with the PS2, GC, and original Xbox in terms of specs, from the same console generation. 200Mhz CPU and 16MB RAM. Luckily this is a server which was written specifically for low-end systems: github.com/p2r3/bareiron

Mephiles reports that he only had to remove 3 lines of optional network config code to get the "bareiron" embedded MC server built and running on the DC with our KallistiOS indie SDK (which has great API support for POSIX and networking). Here's the original repo: github.com/p2r3/bareiron.

Can we get a HELL YEAH for developer, Mephiles, who was just able to host a #Minecraft server on his Sega #Dreamcast (right) and connect to it successfully using a PC client (left)!?

Mad modder Esppiral has done it AGAIN by bringing the #Simpsons Hit and Run to the Sega #Dreamcast!

...okay, fine, you got me! This is Homer Simpson in a heavily modded Grand Theft Auto Vice City on the Sega Dreamcast! 😂

I'm only happy to do what little I can to spread awareness of the amazing work you guys are doing for the whole #retro #gaming community

It's you guys' efforts that push the envelope & help make development more accessible and less intimidating for newcomers too, helping the scene bloom

I've been previewing it already, ensuring it could build Mario Kart 64, and it's amazing! It's hilarious how bleeding edge the GCC15 toolchain it has bundled with it for DC is, compared to what you can even get for your host machine on Windows. lmao.

Thanks so much for helping to spread the word!

HUGE day for the Sega #Dreamcast homebrew community! The next release of DreamSDK, our all-inclusive, powerful, user-friendly, bleeding-edge ready-to-go DC development environment for Windows is finally getting a MASSIVE update!

Ohoooo snap! What a badass paper! You got a link to the whole thing? I'm writing a whole matrix/linear algebra library for this FPU and am wondering if maybe there's other stuff I can do with it within the context of general math. lol.

But no, haven't gone through comparing every value and probably won't need to. It's going to be approximately equal with some size of absolute and relative FP error, which I will try to quantify programmatically.. But we abuse FSRRA for all kinds of approximations. It's more than accurate enough.
falcogirgis.bsky.social
I totally agree with you. Problem is we're still trying to figure out EXACTLY wtf the absolute and relative errors are for FSRRA to begin with, considering I have demonstrated programmatically on the HW that what Sega said in the docs is total BS...

Just discovered a new way to calculate an approx sqrt of a floating point number 5 cycles faster than using the dedicated instruction on the Sega Dreamcast's SH4, by combining the fast inverse sqrt approximation instruction and a multiplication!
