We can’t arrest our way out of #homelessness, but that’s what communities have been doing since last year's Grants Pass decision, which made it a crime to sleep in public even if there's nowhere else to go. In my new piece for #TheRooftop @newamerica.org, I write about what I've seen here in SF:
Reducing Homelessness in San Francisco Takes Services, Not Arrests
San Francisco’s public camping crackdowns are a misguided approach for housing stability.

How to get rid of Citizens United?

We can do away with it without a new Supreme Court. Nor do we need a constitutional amendment.

There’s a far simpler way. Let me explain: https://robertreich.substack.com/p/how-to-get-rid-of-citizens-united

So depressing
If you do one thing today, read and share this link. It is the tech oligarchs’ plan to take over the government and build a post-democratic America, proven to be well underway.

To understand the tech bros, we must think like them—they view our democracy as an outdated system that must be replaced:

What would happen if we treated homelessness and drug addiction as humanitarian crises and not just as quality-of-life concerns for housed people?

I’ve been seeing lots of posts about what Trump has done in his first 100 days. So, on this 101th day, to avoid giving up and to keep myself accountable, I’m going to start documenting what I’m doing each day to #resist this autocratic regime, starting with a donation to Democracy Forward.

everything about this is so unbelievably horrifying and yet some version of this seems to be happening constantly now, every day
After ICE agents raid the wrong Oklahoma location (the immigrants they were looking had already moved), they still force minor girls outside in their underwear, raid the home, and take the family’s money and electronics. kfor.com/news/local/w...

Hosting Bukele while publicly and pointedly refusing to request, let alone demand, the return of Kilmer Abrego Garcia is an intentional show of defiance to the Supreme Court.

Testing what they can get away with.

I live between Hayes Valley and Japantown and this is absolutely not my experience -- I was bipped 3x and had one of my tires slashed, all within 6 months (Sep. 2024-Feb. 2025) -- and yes I did report all 4 of these incidents, and no I never leave anything in my (very basic, not flashy) car

Some lawyers are truly the worst. The richest ones are rushing to bow down to a monster even before an illegal EO is issued. And it’s been a week since Paul Weiss sold out, but no news that any of their 1000+ lawyers have resigned in protest.

The top 7 donors in the 2024 election — all GOP — gave a combined $1B to buy Trump a second term.

It's a gigantic amount of money in total — but it's just pocket change to them.

We must get Big Money out of politics.

No one from either party should be able to buy an election.

Yes. If DHS can barge in, say your visa was revoked, be told you have a green card, say it's revoked too, and then disappear you so that neither your lawyer nor your family can find you, then all the guardrails are gone. There is no policy, practice, or law protecting anyone.
