James Clerk Maxwell told me he puts carrots in his Cornish pasties. I kneed him in the groin.

Hey...you know, I could start a late night BBC R4 prog with this material.....
"I think the words 'meaningless' and 'actually' are both problematic in this statement. I believe we need to unpack what is meant by both of these terms"

(I shiver when I hear the words 'problematic' and 'unpack')😬

Not into Springsteen, or what seems a very US flavour of "rock'n roll". So can't help. When you say "modern equivalents" I'm not really sure what you're looking for.

Can't help - I'd prescribe a change of musical direction, otherwise your condition of being somewhat jaded is likely to continue. 😀

Unusually for my peer group and the time, I was confirmed. I then moved to a sort of Don Cupitt view cos of my scientific education. Then just plain old atheism, but one that fully embraces doubt - not the "certain" flavour you get from Dawkins et al.

I'd go for a converted church, except they either have shite garden space (like the one I posted) or a nice lawn full of gravestones.

Cornish CofE feels unqualified to discuss both the concept of faith and teetotalism.

So many Methodist chapels down here have been converted to homes. Wesleyanism here gave us fishermen and miner's choirs but didn't stop them drinking. There's a chapel not far from me up for sale.

Don't mention those teetotalling bastards....we couldn't afford tea or beer. Mum had to make bladderwrack broth and wine out of pilchard guts.

Luxury? When I was just a young'un we 'ad to climb inside unbaked pasties just to get warm.

These days, if you say you make stew on a Sunday they arrest you and throw you in jail.

I've seen online guides that use that method. In the rice cooker method, I wrap each bulb in clingfilm and then foil.....that seems to control the humidity enough. A ziploc bag should work, just check occasionally to tip out any water that collects, mustn't be too moist.

You'll eat all of that before Xmas.

Let me guess, you went home with mince pies and a Parkside socket set?

Have tried both, slow cooker's definitely too hot. But rice cooker 'warm' setting is too low, meaning it takes a bloody long time. I've got a sous-vide water bath, so stick the garlic in with other stuff (e.g. pork belly). 2 days at 70 in that helps give it a good start before the rice cooker.

Made a new batch of black garlic a few weeks ago. All in the freezer.

It's actually quite warm here today....but still going with roast pork loin & crackling!
