building privacyregistry.eu

🇫🇷 Paris
It was not an easy build. Working with preview and generated pictures is still hard in 2026.

But I love the result

Today, we've deployed a tool to show off your new stack. The stack you've build to escape big tech.

You can try that here: privacyregistry.eu/my-stack
Support the project: privacyregistry.eu/sponsorship

I make privacyregistry.eu more and more valuable. I just added more details on I give a grade to a product. I also talk about their controversies if there is any

privacyregistry.eu provides a privacy score for European products.

Next step will be to give all the details on how the score are calculated

At work, they sent out a memo saying that as a developer, if you're still writing lines of code, you're doing something wrong.

I agree with that: either you adapt or you die.

I'm riding this wave but I also know the wave has an end.

I've been working on Privacy Registry (soon online) that is a registry for european tech products, with their privacy grade and some basic developer informations (API, Compliance, License...)

Here's what could make a European tech directory work:

- Migration guides that solve the real friction
- Verified reviews from people
- Privacy scoring based on real details
- Developer-first infos

I chose @joplinapp.bsky.social

Many 🟢:
- self-hosting
- open source
- French
- e2e encrypted
- frequent updates

I like Standard Notes for their E2EE but it is now owned by Proton. Nothing wrong with Proton but I already have my emails there, do not put your eggs in the same basket

Is there any good alternative?

2026 will be the year of writing. I want to reach the number of 50 blog posts written

I will talk about privacy, alternatives to big tech, European tech laws…

Just published the Phare CLI, a minimal, fast, and privacy-first static site generator

It aims to promote the small web, made for people not for big corps.

Building the cloud version.

A good blog needs 3 things:

1. Fast loading (text appears instantly)
2. Readable (comfortable typography, no clutter)
3. Respectful (no tracking, no data collection)

I tried to make blogs into platforms.

Cloud is still in dev
CLI is available here ⬇️

Considering to use njal.la to transfer some domain names and take one vps.

Any feedback to share?

Most bloggers don't realize what their platform is doing

Pick a template, write a post, publish

Behind the scenes:
- Google Analytics tracking readers
- Facebook pixels building profiles
- Ad networks auctioning attention

Your readers got surveillance

I asked Spotify for the data they had about me.

They actually log every single song you listen to (not a surprise), whether you skipped it or not, but also the IP address (which is very important for defining your taste)

Internet before 2008: text loaded instant, no loading spinners, no "optimizing your experience", no cookie consent modals before you've read a single word.

The entire page was light. It worked everywhere.

We had something good, then we buried it under js

I ran some tests on popular blogging platforms.

- substack: 300-500KB of js before you read a word
- medium: 1MB+ for the homepage
- wordPress: dozens of external requests

A blog is text and images. Why does it need 2MB of code to display 800 words?

🛠️ Phare is the result of thinking about how freedom of expression will be preserved in the months and years to come. We need something with open, European governance that is both open source and easy to use

⭐️ star the repo for support

🛠️ Phare is an open-source project, completely free when you choose self-hosting

It is already working.

I’m now working on the cloud version that will allow users to deploy their blogs easily. It will have a fair price, just to cover the servers and development

🛠️ Phare has a completely anonymous login.

It uses a 16-digit format that gives 8.99 quadrillion combinations. Impossible to brute force. No way for us to know who the blog writer is.
