If they release a cinematic trailer, it means there's no game yet.
I don't get them 😅. Most of the times they are made by an outsourcing studio and look nothing like the game, neither in graphics nor gameplay. So what's there to be excited about it?
I wish devs didn't waste budget on them

After wanting to do it for years, I finally found the time to write an all encompassing guide on HDR, with a focus on gaming.
Hopefully you won't be confused by it anymore, this covers all the basics.
You can find it here, on our new subreddit!

Remender that you are looking at an HDR screenshot compressed to SDR.
filoppi.bsky.social
Sadly the second game fixed none of that.
filoppi.bsky.social
I didn't. But Musa did. The sky looks overly saturated and is of a weird color in hdr iirc.
filoppi.bsky.social
The answer is technically complicated. They raised the blacks so much in post-processing, that they went beyond the usual raised black mismatch between sdr and hdr, hence they both look equally raised (the devs defaulted the HDR to a higher contrast to further balance this out, but it's a hack)
filoppi.bsky.social
They use an additive offset in post processing, most other games don't use that as it's a bit of a weird thing to do in 2025, but artists will express themselves however they like.
The game cannot output black (or even near black) due to that.

bsky.app/profile/filo... the difference with our mod is wild. Silent Hill 2 went for the same weird raised black floor, but here they did it even more.
It left me quite confused on the tone of the game. Raised blacks on OLED just kill the atmosphere for me.

Me and my collaborator Ersh threw out a quick (but carefully done) mod to fix the massively raised blacks in Cronos.

This is from the same developers as the Silent Hill 2 Remake, which is graded very similarly and that we also fixed.
Black Floor Fix
Shader replacement fixing the black floor raise prevalent in the game, especially noticeable on OLED screens and in HDR.

Just so it happens that I released a Remastered mod for Deus Ex Human Revolution the day the DX remaster was announced
I added HDR rendering+output, improved SDR, fixed 4k and Ultrawide support, + fixed graphics issues

I wrote a huge document that highlights all of the problems with Unreal's HDR. I sent it to Epic and they've seen it. I have a branch that fixes all these issues for whoever hires me.
Hopefully things will change down the line, but it's not guaranteed, not unless we keep trying to push so hard.
filoppi.bsky.social
We take SDR as reference and expand on that. We never stray from the artistic intent. We put massive care on that.
It's miles away from the old trashy reshade presets.
filoppi.bsky.social
It's not really a problem anymore in PC, Luma and RenoDX have an HDR fix for almost every single game.
filoppi.bsky.social
Such a shame. Invest billions in great cameras, locations and actors
and then compress the color and brightness range to an old standard just to grade it once for SDR and HDR...
filoppi.bsky.social
No. Same on consoles. It's a widespread UE issue. Can't blame Epic though, devs should fix it themselves.
