Creative hyphenate in Brooklyn who reads too many books and sifts through discount store items to find new sounds to record. Decent backgammon player. Friend to weirdos. Haters and MAGA types will be blocked.

My latest audio drama, "Libromendel," has been officially released! I wrote a behind-the-scenes essay on why I made this and what went into it.

“Libromendel” — A Modern Day Retelling of Stefan Zweig - Reluctant Habits
This is the story of how a 1929 Stefan Zweig story became a vital inspiration for an epic audio drama depicting the cost of removing people from American life. (You can listen to the audio drama at th...

What a killer Thanksgiving so far. The food turned out amazing. The guests have been all smiles. And I have many more visitors coming over the weekend. I also won Fridge Jenga tonight (just barely).

And that's a wrap! I've run out of fridge space. 🤣🤣 Happy Thanksgiving everyone! That gravy, by the way, is HOURS in the making. Giblets, liver, chicken stock, drippings, a bunch of secret veggie enhancements during the initial two hour boil phase.

Almost at the end! The bird is cooling!

Well. She isn't entirely wrong. 🤣🤣

The bird is now in the oven! 18 pounds! (Obviously I spreaded out the butter more after this photo. 🤣)

I wish it didn’t feel so unusual and inspiring to see a leader treating everyone like they matter and saying that we have a responsibility to help each other

This 1970 Dick Cavett interview with Orson Welles is wonderful.

Nope, I don't owe the MAGA Cult a thing. If anything, my bonds between my existing friends have grown stronger this Thanksgiving. And I enjoy cooking and making martinis for everyone. You still have a wide range of opinions to argue about when you cut out the fascist element. Come on now.

I only just found out about the National Guard shooting after happily cooking for ten hours straight. Even one of my staunchest pro-Palestine friends was relieved to be texted happy photos of side dishes without commentary. For fuck's sake, NYT, take a break from the dystopian crack pipe already.
why is this in the NYT Cooking newsletter, of all places!!!!!

Place National Guard in harm’s way for no good reason. Two members are tragically and unnecessarily shot. The reckless regime’s response: We’re sending 500 more National Guard troops! What a disgrace.

People will die, and are currently dying, because RFK was granted one of the most powerful megaphones in the country. Two people who could have thrown barriers in front of his climb decided not to; there's a sex scandal here but it is not the biggest scandal.

National Guard members should never have been deployed in Washington, DC.

The Washington Post is now exactly as reliable and trustworthy as the New York Post.

Proceed accordingly.
very odd that the Post would write up someone’s speciation as if it’s news. What are we doing here

So this apparently is the new American tradition. Kevin Spacey shows up with a creepy Xmas video and Ryan Lizza shows up with a creepy Thanksgiving newsletter. Why must these canceled men practice their grift during the holidays? 🥱🙉

Alright, once the stuffing is baked, we are done with Day 2! Pictured here: parm cauliflower and sourdough stuffing prebake.

More cooking! Four cheese mac and cheese, cranberry sauce, and more Pyrex containers to store all this!

Casserole #2.
November 26, 2025 at 4:26 PM
Farro time, mofos! First time I've subbed this in with my other casserole recipe. So I'm going to make it a bit more milky to offset the chewiness. But I think this will work!

I got a little wild with the base, but what the hell. A very cheesy mushroom-based string bean casserole.

Wow. Super efficient on Thanksgiving Cooking Day 2. Got an early start and now ahead of schedule. One casserole almost done baking, prepping the second casserole now. And I also made a tasty quinoa-Romano-pea side.

It's absolutely insane to me that NYC rightfully has laws to guarantee heat to tenants when the temperature falls in winter, but no such law to guarantee warmth to workers who toil in buildings in which the heat is shut off. Yo @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social, can you do something about this?
November 26, 2025 at 10:58 AM
I have to say that devoting this week solely to cooking like a maniac and feeding friends (while having epic phone conversations with non-NYC friends) was an extremely shrewd move. I had no idea how hard I was pushing myself on revisions until I stopped. Returning to that monster on Monday.

No. You are very mistaken.

77 million voted for Trump last year with 89 million not bothering to vote. This is not temporary, this is the US in the 21st century.

A majority of Canadians consider the US to be an economic and national security threat.
