Good article by @colmanos.bsky.social clarifying some of the confusion around #solar pv and changeover switches in Ireland.
Living in #WestKerry w/ frequent power cuts, it was a no brainer. Of 12 quotes I got for solar 2 yrs ago, 3 were willing/ able to install

As European governments expand the scope of what counts as "support for terror", the question remains: are we criminalising the very kinds of political expression that lead to understanding – and eventually, resolution?

[Great article]

🚨New research out today🚨

We critically examine the use of 'temperature neutrality' or 'no additional warming' as a approach to setting national climate targets, particularly in relation to agricultural methane reduction.

We found that using this approach...

Our new journal paper has hit the front pages and got wide coverage on the airwaves this morning.

The paper critically assesses “temperature neutrality” as a basis for Ireland’s long-term climate target. We find it amounts to backsliding on climate ambition and locks in food system unfairness.

"Over 70% of electric car batteries that have ever been manufactured came from China"

Lots of fascinating facts in this deeply-informed article about the costs of manufacturing renewable technologies in China www.sustainabilitybynumbers.com/p/china-chea...
Why are solar panels and batteries from China so cheap?
It's more to do with automation and state-of-the art manufacturing processes than cheap labour.

Today I learned that a bridge on the M1 linking Ireland & Northern Ireland is named the "Mary McAleese Boyne Valley Bridge" in tribute to Mary McAleese's community & peace bridge building activities when she was President of Ireland (1997-2011) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Mc...

A great poem about the before & after of light switches during Ireland's Rural Electrification is The Lighthouse (by Vona Groarke). I discussed it on a podcast on Energy Poetry www.marei.ie/marei-podcas... There's a transcription link to the poem on the same webpage
MaREI Podcast – Energy Poetry - MaREI
This episode looks at the Rural Electrification Scheme in Ireland through the eyes of the people whose lives were impacted by that energy transition.

The media coverage of Storm Éowyn hasn't been great in making the link with climate change. Here's The Irish Times on December 28th reporting on the growing concerns of Irish insurance industry CEOs at the impacts of extreme weather events
