But I would of course want to see more green data centers and that we make our consumption more and more efficient so the environmental footprint becomes lower and lower.

I did even more checking and one AI generated image consumes ~0.5-1.2 liters of water, compared to for example the production of 1 sheet of A4 paper (10 liters) or a google search (~0.14 liters). Some of the human water consumption when creating an image should probably also be taken into account?

I did a check and a basic image created by a human on a tablet and sent by email to a recipient has a carbon footprint of ~5-50 CO², while a basic AI generated image has a footprint of ~20 CO². So an AI created image might actually not be worse for the environment than a human image.
