One of many, many people with this particular "real name".

You might know me from... IDK. College? Did we work together once? Prodigy's old math forum? debian-devel? A certain social MUSH? xoogler slack? "Making Light" comments? (he/him)

I made a web thing a bit ago that I find useful maybe once a month or so on average, and it's been a while since I promoted it.

It's for when you have a long enough zoom meeting that everyone needs a break; it puts up a sign to remind everyone when you're resuming.

Dear @inquirer.com, I want to re-subscribe, but I *just* want to subscribe and pay a fair rate for fixed service. Not $1/year + $20/month afterward. Not $1/6mo. + $5.49/wk afterwards.

You let people give a 1-year gift for $75, how about that? Oh, you can't gift to yourself.

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme chosen by @alan678.bsky.social is #walking, birds walking.

Though I could go with the same bird as yesterday, I'll go with a different shot from our trip to Aruba, this unhinged-looking Caribbean Grackle on the beach.

Morning Minnesota!

Today's #MorningMinnesotaBird 🪶 is a Downy Woodpecker.

In winter, Downy Woodpeckers are frequent members of mixed species flocks. Like many Minnesotans, they know the safety of joining with their neighbors, no matter how different.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #TailsUp, any bird with its tail raised.

I had more of a struggle with this than I expected to, but eventually found in my photos this Caribbean Mockingbird (slightly out of focus, sorry) acting out the theme.

Morning Minnesota!

Today's #MorningMinnesotaBird 🪶 is an Indigo Bunting.

Indigo Buntings are only in the US seasonally, so at this time of year he likely is in Mexico. He still belongs in the US (and in Minnesota) just as much as any year-round Minnesotan.

Hey Minnesota, it's lunchtime over in your time zone.

Have you eaten yet? Did you remember your meds this morning?

If you fail to take care of yourself, this robin will be Most Displeased.

Sure, he may be in NJ now but in the summer he'll be back to Judge You.

Morning Minnesota!

Today's #MorningMinnesotaBird 🪶 is ducks again, because as I said, I don't have too many of these.

These ducklings just want to hurry up and be reunited with their mom, like many Minnesota kids these days.

Good morning! The #BirdOfTheDay theme today chosen by @alan678.bsky.social is #singing, birds singing or calling.

Here's a Red-winged Blackbird making his loud-static song.

Nothing like seeing a post on LinkedIn about a job involving obscure legacy systems and thinking "oh, I remember my dad telling me stories about such systems when I was a little kid 40+ years ago.."

Morning Minnesota!

Today's #MorningMinnesotaBird 🪶 is a Cedar Waxwing.

Cedar Waxwings are flamboyantly colored year-round Minnesota residents, a fact sadly not well-represented in this particular photo.

It's time for the #BirdOfTheDay and the theme chosen by @robcrank68.bsky.social is #FeedingTime: any bird eating.

Going with another photo from yesterday; there were many American Robins doing many different things.

The #BirdOfTheDay theme today chosen by @alan678.bsky.social is #Winterlight, any bird highlighted by winter sunlight.

A little late today, since this morning I was out getting this photo (among others): one very round American Robin.

Morning Minnesota!

Today's #MorningMinnesotaBird 🪶 is a Baltimore Oriole.

Despite the species name, he is a Minnesota summer resident, so will be back when the snow is gone, and hopefully also most of the ICE

So @robcrank68.bsky.social has said today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #TwoOfAKind: pairs of the same bird.

These two mourning doves do make a pair.

An American Redstart for this #MorningMinnesotaBird 🪶

He's only in Minnesota for breeding season, so isn't there now, but has strong hopes that on his return he won't be having kids in a state still occupied by ICE.

The #BirdOfTheDay theme today from @alan678.bsky.social is #perfectperch: birds perched on a branch.

Going with this Bananaquit from Aruba because it's cold and gray out now and I could use some tropical sunshine and color.

Morning Minnesota!

This #MorningMinnesotaBird 🪶 is a Hairy Woodpecker.

He spends nearly his whole day getting food out of the trees because he's a bird. Humans don't spend nearly as much of their time gathering food, but do also need to eat, especially if out in this weather watching ICE.

@racketmn.com Thank you for your coverage, and thank you for linking to @amandamarcotte.bsky.social 's piece in Salon about the similarities between ICE and the Proud Boys.

However, Slate and Salon aren't the same place, and you've misidentified the outlet in your paragraph here: (see alt for URL)

I want all the ICE agents out there to know that I see you having a stressful job, and just want you to know that resigning and going home and not doing this job any more is always an option.

You can always quit. It's okay.

So this is very "first world problems", but does anyone following me do charitable giving via a D.A.F.?

If so, what guidelines do you use to determine how much to spend down per year?

Loved how this character's #birding habit got a shout-out as a random bit of backstory exposition dropped in the #StarTrek #StarfleetAcademy pilot episode.

Morning Minnesota!

I don't have many of these so can't do this for too long, but here's a #MorningMinnesotaBird 🪶:

Mama duck is happy to be a Minnesota Duck, because Minnesotans take care of each other.
