We're a roots rock band based in Atlanta. Our goal is to create driving rock and roll songs, with melodies that get stuck in your head, and lyrics that put vivid images into your mind. https://shop.echobase.com/products/flashlight-faces-under-the-hammer

Full respect for a songwriter who posts *60 seconds* of an unreleased song and the government feels the need to put out a statement on it.

The number of people who have independently compared my voice to Bob Mould’s has passed into “statistically significant”

I really like Amazing Radio (it isn’t extractive or scammy like so many platforms for independent artists are, and you can actually get broadcast) and now we’re apparently #2 on their UK website, with “In There Somewhere.”

Policy for the new batch of songs I’m working on is, if it doesn’t make me cry, it isn’t good enough

Oh wow, if someone literally *buys* our EP on iTunes, we actually see that money

Unhappily felt.
There's almost 0.00% difference between us and the Cleveland/ Midwestern bands we grew up watching, in the 70's and 80's and 90's; + yet they're appreciated, even revered (some more than they ever were then), + we're ignored or scorned, by the same people.
Ngl, it wears on you.

Just speculation but I feel like the heavily diminished role of live music in bars and cafes has generally eroded the idea of a “local band” in many people’s minds (even though there are still tons of local bands). So bands that exist without any claim to fame or all-out virtuosity look weird.

Well the world has seven wonders
That the travelers always tell
Some gardens and some towers
I guess you know them well

Coming to terms with the fact that I’m not really interested in the sorts of rock music that have completely and totally disavowed any roots in the blues

The awkwardness of releasing the best music of your life at age 42 when the world has hit an abysmal low point and keeps falling

This is the best we can do. If nobody listens, not our fault!

Here’s the beautiful cover artwork of our new EP, designed and handpainted by Jonny Campolo, with a photo I took in London on June 18, 2001. Out this Friday. Listen to the title track here now.
