For $20, someone can legally take 15 wolves from Montana’s wild places. When life is valued so cheaply, we all lose. Our wolves and our ethics deserve better.
43 wolves.
Not numbers on a report, individuals.

Imagine that many wolves standing before us, enough to stretch a city block. Enough to represent entire packs wiped out, social bonds severed, pups left without guidance, ecosystems thrown off balance.

The pack’s ready for a howling good Halloween! 🎃🐺
This Halloween, let’s be brave enough to face the real monster. Let’s build a future where families can explore without fear and where wildlife roams free — not shackled in hidden steel.
A recent letter to the editor reminded Montana’s leaders that our future—and our economy—thrives when wolves do. Thank you to those who speak up for coexistence and a wild Montana; every letter, every word, helps keep our landscapes alive and howling.
While we wish it were enough that bears and all wildlife are valued simply for existing, it’s worth remembering that they give back ecologically, economically, and socially. In Yellowstone alone, each grizzly contributes an estimated $46,000 a year. Protecting the wild protects us all.
We’re proud to announce our first-ever April Christofferson Memorial Scholarship recipient, Gabi Neely, a passionate student dedicated to protecting Montana’s wildlife and wild places. Through young leaders like Gabi, April’s legacy of compassion and advocacy lives on.
A newly published survey by Humane World for Animals reveals that majority of Americans understand that wolves are not the “big bad wolf” of folklore, they’re indispensable to our wild places. According to the article, “78% of those surveyed support continuing federal ESA protections for wolves.”
As of today, 32 wolves have been killed in the Montana hunting season.
A local dog narrowly escaped tragedy this week after stepping into a trap less than a foot from the trail on Homestake Pass near Butte.

Thankfully, the dog survived, but this is yet another reminder that Montana’s trails are not always safe for pets, wildlife, or people during trapping season.
Today’s EQC meeting could decide the future of Montana’s wolves. With killing quotas already threatening to wipe out more than half the population, now is the time to speak up for compassion, science, and coexistence.
Montana FWP’s new Beaver Transplant Program could restore wetlands and heal drought-stricken landscapes—but without real protections, ongoing trapping will doom it to fail. Tell Beaver Biologist Torrey Ritter you support a full trapping suspension in recovery zones: [email protected]
Footloose Montana has joined a coalition suing the state to stop its plan to kill 558 wolves—half of Montana’s population. This reckless policy ignores science and threatens the balance of our wild ecosystems. Wolves are not numbers; they are vital to Montana’s natural heritage.
Montana’s wolf hunting season is underway, and already 25 wolves have been killed. Four of them were taken along the Yellowstone border, wolves who likely spent much of their lives within the park, part of the family groups that visitors travel from around the world to see.
On October 23, the Environmental Quality Council will discuss wolf management under Chair Rep. Paul Fielder, the same legislator suing FWP for not killing enough wolves.
Join the meeting in person or via Zoom and tell lawmakers that wolves are more than numbers.
Despite already allowing the killing of 558 wolves, Montana trappers and legislators are suing for even more.

This lawsuit isn’t based on science — it’s rooted in fear and hatred. Wolves make up just 0.01% of elk deaths. They are not the enemy.

We fight for coexistence. For balance. For compassion

Senators Steve Daines and Tim Sheehy have publicly opposed selling off public lands—but words are not enough. We need them to stand up and reject this amendment.

Act now: Public lands and the wildlife they support belong to every American—they are not for sale.
