Former Pirates fan but still STH who can't invest in that team when the owner won't so I landed at the home for abandoned baseball fans, the New York Mets. Expected Stats are Witchcraft. https://forbesandshea.substack.com/

To be clear:
- Mets are my favorite Team
- Still root for the Pirates / have ST at PNC
- Cannot give Bob Nutting any extra money or the team my passion until the way the team is operated changes.

I will be watching VERY closely how the "influencers" who are all cozy with the sportsbooks handle this story.
The one person I watch regularly who I know has integrity on this topic is Foolish Baseball.
Will other content creators drop these sponors?

Maybe its time we start treating gambling like the addiction it is and not advertise it so incessantly. You do not see cigarette ads during games.
Studies have been done that show betting leads to poverty, domestic abuse, alcohol abuse, & employment problems.
Those sound bad.

There have been multiple huge failures at an institutional level when you have a player making $4.5mil this year and set to make $6.4mil next taking a $12,000 bribe.
League sponsored sports betting is a scourge.

I'm an absurd baseball fan. I love the game. There's almost nothing that could happen to make me not love baseball.
One thing that could: Doubt in the integrity of outcomes of games. Don't think you're not to blame here @mlb.com. You cozied up to betting to make $$. This is a price of that.

Yeah, sports betting is not a problem. Intentionally throwing pitches for bettors and being paid for it? Naaaaaaaaaaah that won't catch on. It does blow my mind that a guy making $6.4MM needed $5k a pitch.

Really happy to see Liover Pergeuro get out of the @pirates.com organization. That is a player who had his potential smooshed by a miser of an owner. He was ready for long term exposure at the next level at the end of 2023.

Yeah I can't wait for the baseball media who worship at the feet of the Dodgers to blow their loads with the Dynasty talk tonight.
They represent an existential risk to the game. When only 6 or so teams have a reasonable shot every year, its bad for baseball.

God that's depressing. Can't stand the Dodgers as an organization. Don't mind any of their guys really but they are an arrogant front office.
Silver lining: CBA will have an argument in it that money buys championships.

Wrecking my sleep schedule twice in a week for the World Series was not on my bingo card considering how this week started for me.

Joe Davis should not be allowed to call another World Series in which the Dodgers appear.

Sports Journalism is just propaganda these days. No the ball getting stuck did not force game 7. No that was not an amazing game. If anything this has been a pretty lack luster series.

Barger is thinking "score here now" when that is IMPOSSIBLE on a ball that shallow. Caught or drop in it means that you need a single from Springer to get the run that matters home. Total brain fart from Barger there. No reason to be 1/2 way to 3rd on a ball like that in that situation.
What an absolutely bonehead play from Barger. You just can't be halfway to 3rd there.

Why PR for Kirk? The runner BEHIND him is what matters. If this ends tied and going to extras your starting catcher and a power bat are gone. Kirk scoring from first was not going to happen but you need Barger to HR or the guy behind him to bat em both in.

I cannot quantify how stupid this question from Tom Verducci was:
"Kike got a HR, that the kind of swing you're looking for?"
No Tom, Dave Roberts hates runs.

I've not seen too many managers with a worse feel for the game than Derek Shelton. This is a sure fire sign from the Twins that they went for a reasonable contract over a desire to compete.

Look on the bright side everyone. No matter what happens this is the last time this year we have to hear the incessant Dodgers Stadium organ.
