Former Pirates fan but still STH who can't invest in that team when the owner won't so I landed at the home for abandoned baseball fans, the New York Mets. Expected Stats are Witchcraft. https://forbesandshea.substack.com/
I'm also aware that I am furious this happened and do not need to take my frustration with it out on you Jon. We disagree and that's cool. That's why discourse is good. I saw your post and cringed. You're entitled to you view on this even if I disagree with it.
Thanks for the spreadsheets.

I just think the take of "The League shares no blame" to paraphrase is extremely bad. All sports leagues have normalized this culture in a profit grab.
The image of MLB clutching its pearls aghast this happened and asking how we got here is comical.

When the teams, owners, & leagues are able to profit from a gambling industy they condone but the players are not that's not do as I say not as I do? Your comparison is convenient but illogical. Showing up drunk is readily apparent and broadly performance affecting. Betting in the shadows is not.

The is a LOT MLB could do here. The biggest problem is pitch to pitch outcomes which could be and should be banned. MLB has helped normalize a gambling culture while wagging a do as I say not as I do finger at players.

Sure but lets not chalk it up to good decision making by Vladdy. He laid off a pitch which could have, should have been the end of his at bat. Not disputing that bad calls don't happen. 2 of Gausman's Ks in the 3rd were on balls.

That was a gift walk. Strike 3 was called a ball.

Nope. I imagine its most of us. Joe Davis thinks he carries on Vin Scully's legacy with "storytelling" when its just drivel and Smoltz continues to talk from snap of the glove until pitcher comes set. I'm ready for this to end tonight becuase of them.
