Semi-retired forester, nature lover, cat dude, Democrat. Live in Georgia, spend summers in Pacific Northwest. All pics are my own. I'm not a pro; I just like to share what I've seen. No DMs, unless we know each other, or it's related to one of my posts.

You should see the photos that I don't post here, lol.

Narvik does get to see more of the world than most cats do.

I should add that the basic model is fine for a cat that doesn't resist. Narvik usually waits patiently while I snap the harness in place. Other cats are not as accepting, and they require a more sturdy model to keep them from escaping.

Ocmulgee River in Macon, Georgia. Water is clear after a long dry spell; it's usually murky. Had a pleasant 12 mile ride on the bike yesterday.

Foreground: The iron railing and stone pillars of a pavilion, with a blue mountain bike parked on the right side. View is of a wide shallow river with a group of boulders on the right side, and a sandbar on the left. Trees line the river, and the sky is blue with scattered cumulus clouds.

Narvik takes time out from squirrel watching to say hello.

A gray shorthair tabby cat sits on ground illuminated by the sun, and covered with moss and fallen leaves. Tail is to the left. He looks straight up at the camera.

I don't remember. I bought it at a local pet supply store that had a limited selection, and it's a very basic design. There are other styles that give more support.

A forester with a cat...I could definitely get along with you. Narvik just finished his fourth trip across the country. He doesn't go to the field, but I take him on my working trips. Pic taken in South Dakota last month on the way home.

You mean The Pancake House? I still have a shirt that I bought there, but sadly the restaurant closed several years ago. The location is now a health food store.

A yellow aspen surrounded by green conifers. Location is near McCall, Idaho.

A small aspen tree displays yellow autumn colors. Green conifer trees, including lodgepole pines and Douglas-firs, provide contrast.

Here's a travel pic of Narvik, at a rural stay in Kansas.

A gray shorthair tabby looks out from a balcony, standing between two gray chairs. The balcony is decorated with old wagon wheels.

Hornet's nest split open.

Never happened to me, but I know foresters who have found themselves in that situation. They find that they can run faster than they ever imagine, through thick brush and on steep terrain!

I'm not religious, but when I happened upon this church in the wide open spaces of northwestern South Dakota, I had to stop for pictures. November 2015.
#photography #sunset #church
An old wooden church stands on the high plains of South Dakota at sunset. A brightly lit cloud roughly follows the outline of the roof and steeple. A lone tree occupies the cemetery behind the church.

Late autumn scene in the Missouri Ozarks. November 2015.

A hardwood forest in the rolling hills of southern Missouri. Most of the trees have lost their leaves. A few trees in the foreground have a bit of foliage. On the far hills are two distinct groves with most of their golden leaves intact. A patch of shortleaf pine adds green color to the left side of the image.

A cat's view, as Narvik patrols the yard for trespassing squirrels.

A picture taken from behind a gray shorthair cat, showing his neck and head. Ears are prominently at attention. The cat is looking at a green lawn with scattered fallen leaves.

I just did a search for maps of the extent of the infestation. The northern third of Georgia is covered, but not the rest of the state. Here's hoping that they don't move south. I planted that tree knowing that the bugs would probably find it one day.

Western larch forests in fall colors at Sherman Pass, Washington, October 2007. I'm using a portion of this photo as my banner image. My travels have often taken me to this site, and occasionally the fall colors are just right.
#forestry #photography #landscape #washington
Western larch (tamarack) trees display yellow fall colors on three layers of mountainsides. The sun shines on the foreground trees and the distant mountain, while the middle mountain, rising to the right of the image, is in shade. Green trees include species such as Douglas-fir, grand fir, subalpine fir, and lodgepole pine.

Narvik stands guard over the ash tree (thus far, the emerald ash borers haven't found the tree, and it's healthy).

I lost my special friend in a tragic way four years ago. Killed by a dog. I still miss her every day. Some people have a hard time understanding the devotion we have to our cats.

Here is another view from US Hwy 395 in eastern California. The viewpoints were crowded with people taking pics. Some had expensive cameras; all I had was a cheap digital model. But the colors were so spectacular that it was hard to go wrong. October 2011.
#photography #landscape #autumn #california
An autumn scene east of the Sierras in California. Shrubs, cottonwood trees, and aspen trees are aglow with shades of yellow and orange. A few green trees add contrast. In the distance is a double peak with a thin layer of snow.

I like the expression on Narvik's face. He was rubbing against my legs, and I was trying to get a picture that wasn't blurry. After several tries, he was getting tired of having that rectangular device being held in front of his face.

A gray shorthair tabby cat is having a stare-down with the camera. He's standing next to me; my blue jeans and shoes are visible. Ground is covered with fallen leaves.

View from US 395 in California, between Bridgeport and Mono Lake. Photo from October, 2011 when I caught the fall colors at their peak.

Looking across a semi-desert landscape towards mountains coated with a skiff of early-season snow. In between are aspen groves showing brilliant shades of yellow and orange.

Narvik looks at me as if to say, "Now what do you want?"

I have to be quick with the camera when taking still pictures. Otherwise I just capture a blur of a moving cat. The "delete" button is my friend.

For #WaterfallWednesday, Running Eagle Falls in Glacier National Park. When snow is melting and more water is in the creek, water also cascades over the cliffs above the outlet.

Navik doesn't always cooperate with my efforts to photograph him. This was on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River, two years ago. I wanted him to sit still on the stump. He wanted to get back into the car.
