Creators can still make their own CCs on YouTube. What they removed was the ability for communities to create subs for the creator. That did and does suck, especially for other languages

Creators can still upload their own closed captions, but YouTube has removed the functionality that allowed community captions, or suggested subtitles provided by the public.

To be clear, this is just as bad as the Amazon AI dub thing. Not as much to meme about, but definitely just as bad. Remember when YouTube switched over to AI closed captions, removed the options for creators to provide their own, and then they all got immediately worse forever? This is like that.
After publishing this article, I've heard from many that CR seems to be using AI to produce dub CCs. Now, thanks to a slip-up CR had with episode 6 dub of The Banished Court Magician, we can say that with 100% certainty: Crunchyroll is using the AI service Ollang.com for its dub closed captions!

I was as mad as anyone when they removed comments from the Crunchyroll site, and I still think hiring a moderation team and providing them with a good tool set would have been a better solution than nuking the feature entirely. But looking at the comments on any Crunchyroll YouTube video... I get it

It's very well represented in this video. You can kind of see her fighting the instinct. But it's there and in more intense sections of the song she can't stop herself. She's a very conscious singer. She wants to keep the tempo of the rest of the band rather than expecting them to keep up with her

My favorite little thing about Sabrina Carpenter is the way she keeps time. She will sometimes like open and close the hand holding the microphone at the end of a measure. She seems like she's got an awareness of what the rest of the band is doing.
