ICYMI, there's been another fake Facebook account pretending to be me. I am NOT on Facebook. If you come across (or are approached by) a Facebook account pretending to be me, it's a fraudster. Please report them to Facebook as a fake!

Why do they look like they’re from a 1970s British sitcom?

I just learned about the hyrax. An animal that looks like they're just done with everyone's bullshit

If you are a UK author, you may also wish to notify the Society of Authors through this form, since they are trying to gauge how many UK authors are affected.

If you believe the specific requirement for additional registration with the US Copyright Office is excluding work you know was stolen for the LibGen database, let the SoA know.

A searchable works list has been released to identify the authors’ works that were stolen by US Corporation Anthropic, to train its AI models. It includes UK authors whose works were copied without their permission or payment.

It's a pretty weird account. A lot of the posts are announcing different film projects, but I think all of them might be fabricated. Not sure what the purpose of that would be. Maybe a bot or a plaintive bid for attention?

Thank you for the lovely mention of Unraveller! 😊

This seems to be what Facebook/Meta are trying to coerce people into doing, which is of course why I have been very reluctant to do so. As far as I'm concerned that would be a last resort.
franceshardinge.bsky.social
Yes, I noticed that. I wondered whether that was because they realised they'd been reported.
franceshardinge.bsky.social
Thanks for trying! I really appreciate it.

Well, thanks very much for trying! I wonder whether the scam artist removed all the posts, photos and other info in order to hide the evidence that they were impersonating me/spreading false information.
franceshardinge.bsky.social
Thanks for sending in the report in any case! I suspect numbers matter.
franceshardinge.bsky.social
I hope so too. The other Facebook-me-impersonators did get shut down by Facebook once enough people reported them.
franceshardinge.bsky.social
By the way, reporting it as a 'fake profile' doesn't appear to work since it demands to know what my real Facebook account is, and doesn't seem to accept other URLs any more. But reporting it as 'scam, fraud or false information' does seem to work.

Sorry to bother people again, but yet another fraudster Facebook account has appeared pretending to me. To reiterate, I am NOT on Facebook. Is there any chance people could report this scam account as well? Thank you!

Yes, this approach doesn't seem to be working. But it lets you report it under 'scam, fraud or false information'.
franceshardinge.bsky.social
No, they don't. It's almost like they want everyone to be forced to have a Facebook account.
franceshardinge.bsky.social
That's probably fair. :-)
Yes, it's difficult to report an imposture of somebody who doesn't also have a Facebook account. Though one can report it under 'scam, fraud or false information'.
