Naming cruelty, bigotry, dishonesty, and criminality is not “partisanship.” Excusing it is.
It got cut as a tangent from today’s sermon, but this week I was also reflecting on “the armor of light” from the collect for Advent I. This armor does not protect us from others, it protects others from our (worst) selves.

I’m learning that sometimes it’s best to say, “I’m sorry, you’re just not a good fit for this position,” instead of waiting to see if they screw up as badly as you worry they will. Because they will. I’m looking at you, America.

Too many are treating the vile communications of the Trump Administration as extra-crispy conservatism still within the spectrum of reasonable policy positions instead of reacting with horror to the utter madness.

Mac & Cheese is for romcom and pajamas nights, not a feast. Green bean casserole is an abomination. Where are the yams? Does cranberry sauce not rank? Ham on Thanksgiving is overkill. And, I don’t like gravy. 💁♂️ But I could eat stuffing until the parousia.

Did I enjoy "sleeping in" this morning. No. My body woke itself up at what it thought was the regular time of 6:30, but it was only 5:30. On a day off. I also fell asleep at 8:30 last night. I hate this.

So I have a couple of free-range cats who seem to prefer my backyard. Sunshine is ready for Halloween, trying reeeaaallly hard to be scary, while Pepper is not trying, like, at all.

I kind of wish I could pay someone to dress up and hand out candy at my house so I could just go upstairs and read but okay we’re doing this. Grateful my town has defined hours for trick-or-treating, boundaries = good.

First: prayer. For truth, accountability, healing, and, God willing, reconciliation. But tonight I want to pray on behalf of all faithful LGBTQ+ Anglicans who have been scapegoated and demonized by this group who imagined their moral superiority prevented them from sharing a church with us.
