My new favourite spooky season read! 💀It is with immense pleasure that I welcome awesome author of gothic 😮delight - Richard Gadz @frankenwriter to my Booksta.Richard's latest release "The House of All Sorrows" is out 23 October - and it could well be the skin crawling read you crave for spooky season. ❤️💀👻If HG Wells and Sarah Hill created a love child, it would be “The House of All Sorrows.”Frederick Jekyll is a reclusive Earl, living in a remote country house, with a locked basement no-one is permitted to enter. He is a scientist, immersed in his research and has an interest in new technologies such as electricity and mechanically powered vehicles. The villagers have grown used to the eerie screams at night, and tales abound of deformed creatures roaming the countryside after dark. When a naïve archaeologist arrives to investigate a Neolithic settlement, his unearths a darkness better left hidden, which results in quite the body count. The storytelling never falters, told in a voice and manner that evokes the 1880s, which adds to the atmosphere and tension. I had that wonderful feeling of being in the hands of a consummate storyteller, it was like discovering a new work by Rider-Haggard or Jules Verne…with a gothic twist. There is even a side story, an ingenious explanation for the Jack the Ripper murders…and that was just as an aside. 🎉👏I don’t want to say too much for fear of spoilers, but the author’s skill lies in making the implausible plausible, and then crafting a stonking good read, red in tooth and claw. IMHO this is the perfect read for a dark winter’s night…but only if you dare. 📚I hugely enjoyed this book. I wish the author every success because The House of All Sorrows should be read by anyone who enjoys a Gothic fiction (or enjoy a good shiver down the spine.) It deserves to be championed and become a cult classic. In due course I’m excited to catch up on the author’s back catalogue. 😍😍😍QOTD: What is your favourite spooky season read?
