A really beautifully written book all about the vanishing sounds of the coastline, and the echoes that live on in popular culture.

Somewhere at the intersection of folklore, the intrusion (and decline) of technology, and nature writing.

Really quite something.

A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE exists in the shadow of three far superior films, THREATS, MIRACLE MILE and DR STRANGELOVE.

A disjointed structure which manages to wring some terrific moments of tension, it never quite sustains itself, or commits to having much to say about anything at all.

#Hookland calls for aid.
I am too ill and therefore too poor to continue doing Hookland. I can’t go on. I will honour my outstanding commitments to it across the next few months and try to find someone to take it over, but I can’t go on.

I do think if you're looking at the publishing landscape, and the Booker winner and your first thought is, "oh my god, FINALLY a man is able to see success in this godforsaken industry," then you're an idiot.

This is one of my favourite films. So eerie and strange.
Woke up thinking about Onibaba (1964).

What a film.
Two women survive in warring feudal Japan by tricking and murdering samurai, and stealing their belongings.
But when someone gets between the two women, the eldest tells of an evil curse that may be on them both...
Machete's way up for this one.🔪🔪

Always, always The Wasp Factory at 15. An English teacher handed it to me after reading something I'd written, saying "i think you'll like this" and it blew my tiny teenage mind.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"
