The eldest drew me a decapitated vampire Henry VIII and excuse me whilst I update my manuscript wishlist.

The novel finally passed the 60k threshold. Finally.

If you ever feel bad about your manuscript not getting punished, do remember that Jonathan Cape once rejected someone because they didn't have enough paper.

I have no idea. There's more...

The four-year-old got given some "reading positivity" stickers and spent the morning making a sticker wall. He just proudly showed me his two favourites.

The novel-in-progress is still very much a novel-in-progress, but I am writing, and that's a good thing.

I love the river Bollin so much that the first third of my novel is set there.

Three of the stories in my debut collection HUNTING BY THE RIVER have been included in @datlow.bsky.social's annual recommendations. A proper, proper honour.

A really beautifully written book all about the vanishing sounds of the coastline, and the echoes that live on in popular culture.

Somewhere at the intersection of folklore, the intrusion (and decline) of technology, and nature writing.

Really quite something.

Horror film of the year. Hands down.

Me and @andreamorstabilini.bsky.social went to an occult exhibition and took some ghost photographs.

Expanding a short story that was greatly in need of breathing room.

Having a rewatch of this tonight.

What's this that we've just had delivered to @titanbooks.bsky.social HQ?

I really really liked Nadia Latif's disquieting, uncanny THE MAN IN MY BASEMENT. Very Aickman-esque - mundane and deeply Weird, and with two absolutely fantastic central performances.

It's on Disney + and well worth your time.

A reminder that E. Nesbit wrote the greatest opening to a ghost story ever.

The four year old made his own special edition of @haileypiperfights.bsky.social's TEENAGE GIRLS CAN BE DEMONS this morning.

Interiors have windscreen wipers "for the sad bits" apparently.

Well, I've been on this solo retreat now for three days and I've managed to write over 10,000 words which feels amazing.

The novel is now at 50k, and I'm not near the end at all yet, but I'm over halfway, and at 50k words, this thing is now legitimately a novel, which is something to be proud of.

Once again, the sunrise at this actual residential library pleases this horror nerd.

Maybe the nicest place I've ever read a book?

Now reading.
