"comics that grab the reader with clean, legitimate resources, comics that surprise the reader because they are new, because they are original, because they are modern, of today, of tomorrow if necessary."

The date commemorates the launch, in 1957, of this magazine, whose back cover included this definition:
"We believe to be in the line of good comics, understanding good to mean comics that are strong, comics that know how to be both tough and cheerful, violent and human," (continues)

September 4 is, in Argentina, both Comics Day and Immigrants Day. There's a very direct line that starts with me reading comics and ends up with me becoming an immigrant. Someone is out there making a comic today, having no clue how it might shape somebody else's life. Cheers!

“López gives us just enough to grab hold of and trusts the reader to fill the gap. To join in the act of imagination.” 🤗

I was there, too! Decided to read one volume a year and that made it feel more manageable. It’s a fun read if you’re in the right frame of mind, I think. Couldn’t stop thinking about my attention span LOL

Un poco se ailmenta del chisme, pero también es lo opuesto a las redes sociales: cada idea se sostiene hasta el límite de la duración.

American “tech” seems to have caught itself in a loop of “first as tragedy, then as farce, then again as farce, and again, and again, and on and on”

Have no opinion in this one, but there’s something akin to a “learned idiom” that is missing in anglosphere comics, where “funny animals” is a (long ago dead) history of comics and not a part of what’s absorbed from childhood. That’s why I feel like Trondheim doesn’t fully click with English readers

Ticonderoga and Sgt Kirk are two westerns by Oesterheld and Pratt. Two very different approaches to the possible (but difficult) relationship between native people and white men. One youthful and awed, the other adult and tragic. Both marked by institutional violence, neither published in english.

I’d assume it’s in some kind of tricky rights holding situationship, as the kids would say

Hi! I’ll be serializing a new story here and on IG (at slautow) before it comes out in print at @spxcomics from @parsifalpress in September. Here are the first two pages of Night, Court. 🌊

“Fun” fact: almost every time I’ve gone to this store I’ve bought a Jason book. Please buy my comics so I can keep up with my “tradition”.

Entre ellos, y gracias a una reseña e imágenes en La Cárcel de Papel, estaba el nombre de Castells. Volvieron con Huracán, que fue para mí toda una revelación. Gracias por la ayuda en descubrimiento, Álvaro.
