I am in awe of the dazzling diversity of Proteaceae in Australia. Hakea sericea has tough, awl-like leaves, a world away from the broad leaves of H. victoria that I posted earlier today. Just amazing! 📷: Dave Richardson CCBY4. #Proteaceae #Botany 🌾🧪🌱

🌱🌹By Courtesy Only - a very LOOSE 😄 interpretation of #RoseWednesday with Pereskia grandifolia (Rose Cactus). This favorite species of a basal, leafy Cactaceae genus blooms on & off indoors through Winter, despite actual Roses being 🥶🥀 freeze dried outdoors. Despite lush foliage has sharp thorns.😱

Six On Saturday: Time to trowel up
It may be hard to find six things in the garden at this time of the year but as I walked round this morning it was clear that the weeds are having a lovely time. They shine out as splashes of green…

The garden’s coming back to life. Hellebores are blooming, Rosa ‘Lady of Shalott’ is stirring, Nandina glows with vibrant red berries, winter heath is in full bloom, Sarcococca’s gorgeous scent fills the air, and the Bodnant viburnum flowers blush softly pink. #SixOnSaturday

Some say the poisonous-fruited Euonymus is named after Euonyme who, in Orphic tradition, is the mother of the Erinyes, or “Furies”, the three sister-goddesses who represent vengeance. It is commonly called the spindle-tree because its wood was used to craft spindles, or distaffs.
