DC residents have all the obligations of citizenship, including serving in every American war. They deserve equal representation in all aspects.

I introduced my bill to add the DC seal in stained glass among seals of the states in the Library of Congress.

“When shootings involving MPD officers happen, there are laws and regulations requiring that specific information be shared. The two recent shootings, though, show the significant gap in transparency that exists when federal agents pull the trigger.”

What's the matter guys, don't like it when people recognize you for your work?
An ICE agent was caught removing a sign marking an ICE kidnapping in DC last week! Do we think he did it out of anger, embarrassment, or most appropriately shame? If you think what you’re doing is right, why are you trying to hide the evidence? 👀

HAPPENING NOW: DC community members are outside MPD headquarters to demand independent investigations of and release of all officer names and body cam footage in the three deaths in police custody this week, as well as the termination of Trump’s “DC Safe and Beautiful” Task Force.

After a record-breaking government shutdown that they caused, Trump & Republicans want to spend time micromanaging DC instead of representing their constituents.

If Trump wanted to run DC, he should resign & run for mayor.

I testified in the House Rules Committee to make it clear: hands off DC.

What DC communities *actually* need is help with the housing affordability crisis. Applications open today for DC's emergency rental assistance and it will be Hunger Games-level of need.

If Congress wanted to help DC they'd take action on this — not force us backwards on bail and police reform.
Important reminder for DC tenants: applications for emergency rental assistance open tomorrow at 9am.

This year, all applications will be made by appointment only.

You can make an appointment by calling the Virginia Williams Center at 202-507-6666 starting at 9am or by visiting 64 New York Ave NE.

These 20 House Democrats just joined Republicans in voting to fully repeal DC's police reform laws.

Wiping off the books critical laws on use of force, transparency, and preventing violent cops from getting rehired.

They think that they should have more say over DC police than the people of DC.

If you say "Trump is a threat to democracy" and vote like this, you simply don't believe what you say.

The idea that swing state Dems would "need" to vote for this is also laughable. No one in your district is kept up at night by the idea that a crooked cop in DC won't get hired back.

The two bills the House passed last night serve only to criminalize poverty and erode trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

The Senate must vote these bills down and reject this blatant attack on DC’s local autonomy.

Congress has no right to drag us backward.

This makes everyone less safe.

The House has passed H.R. 5107, a bill to undo basic transparency and accountability measures for DC police.

Rolling back laws around police accountability is dangerous and will encourage abuse of power.

H.R. 5107 is wrong and we will continue to fight its passage.

The House has passed H.R. 5214, a bill to return DC to cash bail.

Cash bail creates two tiers of justice, one for people with money and one without. DC abolished it more than 30 years ago and crime has dropped precipitously since.

H.R. 5214 is wrong and we will continue to fight its passage.

House Dems should be focused on this — DoD trying to normalize troops on American streets — not trying to reinstate a cash bail policy in DC that hasn’t been in effect for 3 decades.

This is the real threat to DC's safety right now — not people awaiting trial, and not local police being held accountable.

House Dems, see the larger picture. The DC bills you will vote on tonight are only about whether you will cooperate with Trump's agenda of detention or oppose it. Nothing else.

D.C. residents deserve the same right to govern themselves as every other community.

Yet House Republicans, who know little about D.C., are pushing bills that meddle in what should be local decisions.

I stand with D.C. leaders against these harmful attacks.

Only two nations in the world use cash bail: the Philippines and the United States.

DC eliminated cash bail more than 30 years ago because it's wrong to have one system of justice if you're rich and another if you're poor.
