Anyway, it's my birthday, and it struck me that bawling while friends send cheerful messages and I have a laundry list of tasks that need to get done today is a quintessential adult experience.

This morning's update was not good.
Significant tumor growth in the last month and it's too entangled to resect as much as they hoped.
Less than 5% of GBM4 patients survive more than 5 years, he's at 4.

I hate this. I hate his pain and his misery and the slow dimming of a soul made from pure love.

On his way out of the OR. They were only able to get about 80% of the tumor because it's a hot mess scramble in there. The last two weeks have been a drastic decline so hopefully this will present some relief.

At the hospital waiting for my friend to get out of brain surgery. He's been in for 5 hours.

It's causing a lot of stress, and makes no sense. HR said he doesn't even need an accommodation because they're required to allow it.

Normally that would be a motivator, but with the current situation it's "furlough leave" and won't be taken out of his leave balance so there's no loss, technically

My partner has been placed on leave.
After 3 months they still can't figure out who processes his service dog paperwork.

He's been told he can return whenever he wants if he doesn't bring his service dog, which is....not how service dogs work.

My early 20s/late teens kids live at home while going to school.
Sat everyone down tonight to discuss the shutdown and lack of pay.
One kid said "We're all in a better place than during the last shutdown, we'll be okay" and another quietly sent money.
Situation sucks but my family is awesome.

My partner passed all the assessments a day early and we're on our way home with his service dog.
All the waiting and now it's finally happening. It doesn't feel real.
We love a little good news among...all this

MY paycheck isn't more valuable than what this shutdown is, ostensibly, for. Extend healthcare subsidies and strip anti-trans provisions from budget bills.
It's not all about ME. We live in a society and have an obligation to care for all our communities, large and small.

If the VHA wasn't doing everything in their power to make employees as miserable as possible, they wouldn't have providers walking out with no notice and they could ACTUALLY SERVE VETERANS.
This administration doesn't give a fuck about anything other than their own wallets and tender egos
