A community-led memorial site for our neighbor, Alex Pretti, who was murdered by ICE this morning. For the record, this memorial site is the safest place I've been in weeks. Not because of Walz, Frey, or the local PD. It's because of the community making it safe.

Even if you don't see this before the listed time, you should still make an effort to do this. Alex was an ICU nurse. How many of us have to die before the nation takes this seriously? Protestors are why the murder rate by ICE isn't way higher.

This is very abstract, but I'll do my best. The background color is a light brown, as it was solely done with brewed coffee. The outermost borders are stark white. Just inside of those borders sit some olive green lumps. The upper left area of the painting contains some orange leaf-like things as the main feature. They are surrounded by a pale yellow, as if glowing. A few sky blue tendrils drift just outside the glow. The middle of the piece from upper left to lower right features a couple of red curvy lines. My signature is lurking between these two lines near the bottom of the page.

This is the beginning of a watercolor painting. Here we have some red wavy lines in the middle, at varying degrees of light or dark. There's some orange on the upper side of the paper; it looks a bit like leaves. Not sure what it actually is though. The background of the picture has a light brown (also called sepia) tint to it.

This is a mostly watercolor painting of a flood. The water reaches most of the way up the entry door of a large building. Some trees, both alive and dead, are visible on the far left hand side. The whole painting has a brown tint to it because I intentionally poured brewed coffee onto it.

Continued from my last post. All of that newly added brown is just coffee. I used a pencil to sketch that building. I'll probably end up using some actual watercolor paint soon since I don't have more food products that won't rot when left on paper.

The whole surface of this sheet of paper is coated with brewed coffee, which has since dried. The texture of the brown tones is far more varied on the left side of the page. Some darker brown lines stick up from the bottom of the page on the left side, like fingers reaching toward Heaven. On the right side, I've sketched a building. It looks like an apartment building with mismatched windows.

What using brewed coffee on watercolor paper looks like. I soak this type of paper in cold water and then let it dry completely before painting, so your results may vary. The liquid coffee was allowed to cool to room temperature before use.

Liquid coffee used as paint on white watercolor paper. The shade of brown from the coffee is soft and somewhat light in tone. It's very similar to what I would expect from regular watercolor paint. Note: I did not strain the leftover grounds before painting, so the thickness isn't super consistent here.
