This is maybe my fourth year on Artfight and I’m always surprised that people would want to draw my characters, but this year in particular there are a lot of attacks and it’s difficult not to feel a bit emotional

I love this so much, not just the drawing itself (your style has so much warmth and care), but the fact you took the trouble to write a small scenario on how they’d meet 🥹

I've had this idea for Silas' and Railoryömijä's interaction since AF2023. Silas' story was so heartwarming and it inspired me to think of character interactions that could take place on the background of the Monkvalley mass attack.
I thought how Silas could happen to wander into the valley and meet Lalli during Kekri, and Lalli would take notice on the toys Silas was carrying with him. Lalli is very insightful so he quickly realized that Silas doesn't understand the concept of money, so he'd ask if Silas would like to trade the toys for a new coat, materials and tools. Of course he'd get to enjoy the warm hospitality of the monastery as well, hence why I differed from his references and drew Silas with a pristine coat, and without the sticks and leaves in his hair in both drawings.

And young Railoryömijä, they'd be enthralled by Silas and his wooden toys! Wood was a rare material during Railoryömijä's childhood on the mountains so it was only used for heating and crafting of important utensils. They had never thought of using it for toys, but inspired by Silas' craftsmanship, the young woodcarver would try to make some of their own. In this scene Railoryömijä would gift a toy they had made to Silas as a thank you for bringing so much joy and wonder for the children of the valley.

This was a challenging draw and I wish there had been more time to work on it but I'm still so proud how all the characters turned out.

I like to challenge myself with Art Fight projects and I really pushed my limits with this one. It's the most characters I've ever drawn in a single scene with a background. This style of a background is something that I continued to evolve in my later drawings.

I wish I had had a bit more time so I could have added proper shading for the piece, and further work on the building, but there is so much one can do with limited time.

But the most important thing are the characters and I'm so happy how they all turned out. <3
