I recommend everyone to read this thread. I think there's been a huge misunderstanding from the moment the apology was issued, and I admit I was misled too. This cleared all of my doubts.

Scott: The past few days have been very challenging and eye opening, and very uncomfortable for all - I'm in the process of putting together something more concrete that I plan to share with the community soon, but I'd be glad to share the following with all patrons: RA will not be a place for hate speech, and will not be a place to encourage hate speech in any of it's forms. In order for RA to grow, we may need to adjust our direction slightly, to reflect the following values that I personally (and hopefully the team) share: inclusivity, patience, compassion and understanding, peace and respect. RA is for ALL people of all races, genders, ages, interests, sexualities and neuroidentities. The minimum requirement is respect. Respect of each others ideas and beliefs. Recently we have had to deal with an achievement set that promoted some very abhorrent ideas as parody (South Park-style humour but incredibly dark). This makes RA appear to recommend those abhorrent values. We don't. Unfortunately the distinction is hard to make, and together we've made a choice to not support that achievement set, and to stop development. While for 13 years we've been open to all possible avenues for using RA in all possible legal ways, we plan to put together stronger guidelines to prevent something like this from happening again. Thank-you for your understanding and patience while we ensure that RA continues to be something we can all be proud of ❤️

Scott: We were both involved in the original post, but I don't think nepiki or I either knew it was about Pokémon clover directly, and I certainly didn't know that the link to the news post would link directly to the clover forum page (that was a significant mistake)

Scott: There's been a ton of misunderstanding, misinformation, and it's shown RA to be in a really grubby light, and for that I take full responsibility. I'm resting up today, and hopefully tomorrow eve I'll be in a better place to help put into place some pillars we can stand by, so we can have an RA we can be more proud of. But you are right, there was definitely a misalignment in the messages, and we're taking steps to improve that process in particular.

This is certainly a better response than most organizations have given in similar situations, but I need to see @retroachievements.org clearly commit to blocking bigotry and hate speech before I feel comfortable giving them another chance.

Update:

RetroAchievements has removed the hack & issued an apology: retroachievements.org/forums/topic...

While I appreciate these actions, this apology stops short of a commitment to blocking hate speech, instead saying they will "discuss how to move forward with content like this in the future."

A forum post on retroachievements.org titled "An Apology to Our Community", posted by the RAAdmin account.

It says, "Dear RetroAchievements community,

Today, we have made an announcement regarding a policy clarification on our User Code of Conduct. This was met with serious concerns, and we fully acknowledge that we have let the community down by how we handled it.

First of, we would like to apologize for how this started in the first place. We posted this announcement in the forum post of Pokémon Clover, which (understandably) associated the announcement specifically with that game. This policy clarification was meant to be regarding transparency of our policy in general, and was not meant to be associated with a single game. Pushing this to the front page did not help, and for that, we do deeply apologize.

One concern that was brought up was regarding our stance as an archival platform not curating what games we allow on our platforms, aside from games that have been deemed illegal. This obviously raised concerns that, given our stance, we are also in favour of allowing an edgy Pokémon hack that glorifies hate speech. This obviously goes against our ideal of a retro gaming platform, and we have no intention to ever be associated with hate speech.

Effective immediately, development on Pokémon Clover is stopped and it will not be released in its current state on RetroAchievements.

Internally, we are going to discuss how to move forward with content like this in the future. This will take time, because we want to be absolutely sure we reach a conclusion that we can truly stand behind. We have lost goodwill today from all sides, but we will do our best to ensure we live up to the expectations you have for us."
