Bluesky permits the freedom to have such profile pictures. This is fine. The issue is that it's wrapped up with the setting for posts instead of being it's own setting. Which needs to be discussed with the Bluesky team and not here on random posts.

It's blurring in case that it might be NSFW. Because there are NSFW profile pictures. It's too simple of a solution.

That's the problem with umbrella solutions. And AI algorithms will false flag as well. You can't practically moderate each user for manual review, and automated systems will get it wrong.

Just add a solution to show/hide profile pictures. Problem solved.

That is certainly not the reason, nor the goal. What can be done is have a way to turn that off specifically. Which I believe can be programmed into the website. The problem is that it needs to be relayed, and done.

Some users may not want to see NSFW PFPs. This is fair. Just need a setting for it.

It's only blurred if you have safety settings on. Because people love to put NSFW as a pfp. On my NSFW account, you are not blurred because I have the settings set to show.

It's not that your pfp is offensive. It's a blanket safety solution in the event that it might be offensive.
