Hi #PortfolioDay!
I'm Katie, a fantasy and fine artist in the PNW.
I paint landscapes, nature, animals & creatures. My specialty is dragons in detailed, lush backgrounds.

This is really neat to scrub through. I always wondered what I would be doing if I had pursued animation instead of being rolled to game dev in college. I have to admit, I still really love it. Maybe I'll let myself explore it a little bit in the coming year. Not a goal, but a little side quest.

One day I'll finally find a plastic tote that perfectly fits 5x7 inch prints in sleeves. Apparently they don't exist, but maybe some day they will. 😩

The art book shelf grows slowly but steadily. Just added a couple more of the Artist Monographs (the ones stacked in the center). Been building my library over the past couple decades and it makes me happy :)

Oh my gosh, I'm so thankful for the attention on my Winter Solstice dragon painting, even if it is an old piece. 😭🥰
It feels nice to have a piece of art go viral instead of one of my other posts (like the bad tech) that always attracts the worst types. It's a high note I really needed, thank you all

A game I've put hundreds of hours into was fully created using stock assets, the characters are super stiff and look like their backs are breaking when they look around, they hold items weird and glitch through walls when they die and I still love it.

I'm a big fan of this. I try to buy the bulk of what I know I'll need before the end of the year, and if I can manage it, merch restock.
Also a point made in the thread: if you have the means to replace, don't force yourself to use gear that is falling apart if it's only hurting or hindering you.
Happy “just go ahead and invest in the new stuff you’ve been needing for your work gear before the year ends so you can write it off on your taxes” day 🥲

Those thumps I heard on the roof earlier make sense now 😂
Washing my hands, minding my own business when I hear aggressive squeaking on glass noises. Looked up to see these two raccoons rubbing their paws on the glass lol

Thank you Gyrwolf! Glad to see everything made it safe and sound. :D
Dragons! I wanted to show off my order from @kamakru.bsky.social that arrived today! I can’t wait to wear the shirt, use the notepad, and the pins look fantastic. Thank you for the extra stickers too!

Here's some real time video of December's lino cut print getting carved! 🐉 🌳 Printing will be in the next few days, maybe I'll try a new green ink I just got ;D
The lowest editions will go to the Patreon print collector tier for those active or join in December.

A good PSA for art prints!

- Sign the front of your print at least 1/4 of an inch away from the edges. Don't sign on the literal edge, it'll get covered by a frame or mat
- Don't use labels! They're not acid free. Use a stamp with archival ink instead.
- Info sheets are better than business cards.
Fellow artists-please sign your work.
Not like a dr signature, that’s fine of course, but more importantly could you put your name or site on the back of your prints? Doing more framing to decorate n the amount of times I find something I love but have no clue who made it and would want more 🙃

Seeking references & exploring ideas and possibilities in real things is what makes the best curated boards and references! Quality references will in turn give you better quality results that aren't marred by made up garbled imagery from who-knows-where. It's like eating good food, but for your art
Been thinking on the use of GenAi for mood boards. Ethics and legal risks aside, I truly believe using GenAi as references deprives one of many pivotal things.

Here’s a blurb on what I mean:

I always loved just making stuff. Whether it was glueing together collages or bending wire or painting or scribbling on the white board in school. I didn't like numbers, or sports, or dancing as much as I like colors and shapes. I liked to imagine things and make those things as real as I could
With all this awful news going on i wanna ask this question once again to fellow artists and general creatives. What got YOU into art? what sparked that motivation to start writing? what made you wanna pick up a camera and start taking pics? Like share with us your reasons.

So basically, "we need it because what if it's better even though it's making us do MORE work, but we need it because OTHERS are using it, and what if we get left behind".

Why do they constantly think they'll "fall behind". It's the made-up boogeyman of out of touch ceos and tech bros.
If I had known the two paragraphs about genAI in my article today would be so controversial, I would have expanded them a bit! Here's a rough transcript of the relevant portion of my interview with Swen Vincke, so everyone has all the context. (Full article here: www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...)

So I went ahead and installed Vivaldi. I don't like installing new things on my computer but at this point what is possibly worse than Chrome and Google search?
I actually really love it.
I've been using it for about 30 minutes and it's blocked so much. I feel like the internet is easy to use again
December 17, 2025 at 12:38 AM
Oooh looking into this asap!
I use Vivaldi, which is an early chromium fork, if you're looking for a replacement that's good.

You can change almost everything, even right click menus. It can use Chrome add-ons but also has native adblockers which work very well. No ads, no AI, no bullshit 😌
It just keeps getting worse - Firefox to "evolve into a modern AI browser "

I've been keeping this pretty under wraps because I didn't want it to somehow get around to her, but I've finally finished the embroidery painting I made as a Christmas gift for my bestie~ I gave it to her yesterday, and she loved it 💚💚💚

The main shop is officially closed, orders are packed and heading to the post office today!

Clothing, mugs and digital downloads will stay up since I don't have to do anything for those. (All new orders will arrive AFTER Christmas)

There's a connection that people who constantly seek and initiate rage-bait interactions get a dopamine hit from it, and that certain people live their lives in this rage state (under the guise of "good and necessary debates") when in fact they're just addicted to anger and can't process why.
"Bluesky is an echo chamber."
"Bluesky doesn't have enough reach"
"Liberals must return to X to challenge the far right"

I'm not a tech bro or a journalist. Your priorities are not my priorities. Stop telling me I need to do anything other than chat about comics & telly with people who seem nice.
