I'm not sure if I should be concerned at all that 20% of my website traffic is from China. I've never shipped a single package there, so I'm assuming it must just be manufacturers picking up my SEO on pins or something, maybe? Anyone else notice a similar thing?

"Departing Hometree"
The tree that sheltered the egg, that nestled the hatchling, that shaded the fledgling & covered it in storms. The tree in the forest that held it close, until one day the dragon spread its wings & lifted from the ground with exuberance and possibility.

Went outside to nab a couple little bits of cedar branches to photograph the new painting with, and found this lovely little stick covered in lichens and tiny moss! Full size photos for all that detail goodness (that I could get on my phone at least).

Quick reminder that the shop closes in a couple days, Sunday December 14th! I plan to make Monday a pack and ship day.
All digital items (like coloring books) and POD items like shirts and mugs will continue to stay up with a disclaimer that those won't arrive for Christmas.

Have any creators out there ever made your own advent calendar? Experience wise, was it a "hell on earth, I'll never ever do that again" or "it was a fun thing to put together, no regrets!" situation?

Also: Would people be interested in advent calendars from artists and other creators?

Hey friends if you're in Oregon or Washington and you're told to leave your house due to flooding, DO IT. DO NOT STAY. It is not worth your life, it is not "tough" or "brave" and you are not proving anything by not leaving.
YES we get rain regularly but flood levels are beyond major levels in areas

Painted today until my hand starting cramping so that's my sign to cool it for the night and rest. I hate being in the flow of work and my wrist is just like "no, no more you've already done 3 hours today."
I want to do 5 hours. I want to keep going but I know it'll backfire. Sigh.

More traditional media experimentation! Watercolor, ink, color pencil, and a little bit of digital touchup.

Someone decided to try to "well ACKTually" me about what qualifies as a sketch on my own post, then continued to get super snarky when I corrected them.

.... LOL. Ya'll. I just don't even know sometimes.
Loosen up, move on. If a post doesn't apply to you it's OK to not comment.

It's always wonderful to see prints in their new homes! Thanks for the tag and share, Patrick :D

I don't know who needs to hear this but sometimes a sketch is just meant to be a sketch and not a finished piece.

Not everything has to be a "finished" thing. Maybe the sketch IS the finished version of that thing. If you learned from it, took what you needed, it had its purpose fulfilled.

What a gorgeous bird and lovely capture, those colors and lighting is just perfect!

Also it would make absolutely lovely dragon colors.
The Dull-mantled Antbird is a fun one. These birds are fiercely territorial and loud. If you happen across their territory, they'll let you know about it. They like steep, wet ravines with thick vegetation and don't like coming out in the open.

Finally got the paper and sketch for the next painting prepped today. I'll be head down pretty hard on this one for the week I think (EDO deadline). Because I was focused on show prep in November, I haven't even picked up a paint brush for about a month so I'm pretty excited to dig in!

I hate that you have to have an account to see anything that's even set to public on FB or IG. I'm not logging into IG ever again, but so many people and businesses ONLY have Instagram. Why? It's awful. It's restrictive. It's algorithm hell and it's all fed directly into genai.

Just realized I hadn't redeemed ANY of my Staples points for like... years I think? Well, guess who just restocked some mailers. I go through ones that hold 5x7 prints the fasted, so I grabbed the thicker box for multiple prints or prints mixed with pins, and the flat mailers for just 1-3 prints

Oh I'm totally down to share what I know!

*Just keep in mind that more specific questions will get better answers. Like Qs about materials, equipment, methods, references, specific inspiration, making prints, conventions, etc.
Share your knowledge if/when you can. Teaching other people how to do what you do doesn’t lessen your art - it just means more and better art for everyone.

I appreciate when people are willing to tell me about their brushes, how they study, etc… I want to put that back out into the world.
