hah i hope we can all agree that drew is a fun energy guy and a useful third big who can step into real backup minutes as a short-term injury band-aid. and he was a cool local kid story for us.

but going into a season with him as a 20mpg backup was not a recipe for success imo

9th man on the 2023-24 suns (who limped into the playoffs and got swept in the first round)

started the next season on a 17-win jazz team then contributed 14 total playoff minutes to the clippers after being traded. now he's in sacramento.

i knew billups sucked on game no. 1 when he was playing nurk at the level lol so i'm not gonna defend his coaching acumen! just saying cronin was obviously ready to tear it down to the studs and it showed as soon as they handed him the keys

not defending chauncey at all but the 22-23 center rotation felt to me like a stealth tank in waiting. 28 minutes of nurkic starting and then…drew eubanks?

cb’s first year, 21-22, was an attempt by olshey to ride dame to another first round exit but by then he clearly needed the abdominal surgery

not a great broadcaster imo but always had a broadcasting gig when he wanted it

zero front office experience but had a role in cleveland lined up

zero coaching experience but got a lead assistant role year 1 and head coaching role 1 year later

pretty clear he was well liked in nba circles

the most generous (and maybe occam’s razor leads to this) assumption is that cronin/jody/etc felt chauncey signed up to coach a playoff team and immediately got tasked with tanking each of his first 3 seasons, then wanted to give cb a chance to see it through after the 2nd half success last year
