Movements changed the story on marriage equality in two decades.

We went from "defense of marriage" being common sense to love being love.

That's narrative power.

The same playbook works for economic justice, climate, all of it. Tell the story. Organize around it. Keep going.

#ICYMI - The will to tell different stories is everywhere. Some movements are already changing the narrative.

Shanelle Matthews joins us to share how everyday people, not powerful elites, are the real force for narrative change and how we can build it together.

Narrative change is a team sport.

Shanelle Matthews reminds us that telling your story alone isn't enough: organizing with others to challenge dominant narratives is the point. Real power is built in community, not in isolation.

"Defund the police" spent three years dominating national conversation.

It put abolition on the agenda. Made people question why cops were funded with billions while our public schools crumble. Started conversations about what safety means.

This narrative took years to build momentum. Persistence.

Narrative power is more than just messaging. We need to challenge whose stories get to define "normal."

Join us this week to learn why movements must contest cultural hegemony, where elite beliefs become common sense that everyone accepts without question: www.futurehindsight.com/episodes/sto...

What people accept as "common sense" isn't always natural. It's a story that got repeated enough times.

This week, Shanelle Matthews shows how social movements rewrite those stories and why your job is to make new ideas feel inevitable.

Political change operates on your ability to tell your story, because stories shape what people believe is possible. It's not always just "facts and policy." So join us for a revealing conversation about how successful movements build power through storytelling. 🧵(1/3)

TOMORROW: The power of storytelling is no secret. Every political movement tells a story. Here’s the real question: Who gets to tell it? And more importantly, how can we as everyday citizens tell stories that shape movements and build narrative power?

Someone in crisis gets access to a gun. They use it. They don't get a second chance.

Extreme risk protection orders let family or police temporarily remove guns from someone showing warning signs.

It's not about taking rights away forever. It's about keeping someone alive long enough to get help.

95% of Americans agree on universal background checks.

So why don't we have them? Emma Brown explains how the gun lobby blocks what almost everyone wants – and how some states are pushing toward wins for everyday people anyway.

Armed intimidation at polling places isn't free speech. Some states finally passed laws banning weapons near ballot drop boxes.

Americans support universal background checks.

Republicans want it. Democrats want it. Gun owners want it. Non-gun owners want it.
Yet Congress won't pass it because a small, well-funded lobby has convinced politicians their careers will end if they vote yes.

This is democracy being held hostage.

A nurse fainted on camera after getting the COVID vaccine due to a medical condition that causes fainting. Conspiracy theorists claimed she died.

She posted proof she was alive. They said she was replaced by a double.

This is why conspiracies are hard to fight.
