The question is: how much decentralization must be compromised for the sake of user experience?

The answer is simple: ZERO. We are not compromising!!!
gabo.bsky.social
Just like oven designers didn’t remove the oven door—even though it’s a UI annoyance—because it serves a critical function. The same goes for decentralization. It’s not a feature to polish away for convenience. It’s the foundation.

We design with it, not around it.

This post by @dustyweb.bsky.social et al is an absolute banger

files.spritely.institute/papers/imple...

It has been a major inspiration for our implementation of "web of trust" in @seed.hyper.media

Although, there is a slight mis-representation of Zooko's triangle. I should write about this...

Haha yeah it's "sort-of-Zooko's Easier to Explain Triangle" I guess

We had a debate about it, I find the "human meaningful, decentralized, secure" analysis really hard to explain, because secure is so *vague* there, so I kinda pushed the version that's in there

Glad you like the paper!

Good post by @joehellerstein.bsky.social on the theoretical foundations behind CRDTs. Automerge has exactly the layered structure he describes (commutative ops on top of a partially ordered log semilattice). Looking forward to the rest of the series jhellerstein.github.io/blog/crdt-tu...
CRDTs #2: Turtles All the Way Down
This is the 2nd post in a series of 4 posts I'm doing on CRDTs. Please see the intro post for context. Modern distributed systems often seem to rest on an stack…

We're lucky to have such great foundations as IPFS+libp2p! This greatly accelerated the development of our decentralized publishing system
seed.hyper.media
Seed Hypermedia builds upon the powerful foundations of @ipfs.tech for immutable data storage and auto-archiving

And of course @libp2p.bsky.social powers our networking to enable direct publishing between users on the network (as well as servers)

I want to interact with Bluesky through libp2p and ipld.

These are my conditions.

I wrote a quick note about archiving.

Seed Hypermedia is a Xanalogical system in which every node is an archiver. Our initial goal is creativity, sense, and consensus-making, but it also resulting a great tool for archiving.

I have many open questions!

is there a good way to let people “pay” for a blog post while keeping it open and self-hosted. basically like a “tip” button but without the self-deprecating “buy me a coffee” connotation. just like, wanna pay for this, go ahead

The web community needs to renew our focus on building decentralized trust, community preservation, and accessibility of publishing for non-technical people

This is why I love working on @seed.hyper.media every day

Our product is open in every way, and you are all invited to join the cause!
