I'm pretty sure that's no excuse to use the National Guard to kill your own citizens, or to build torture centers for political opponents, or to help the army run sectors of the country like a mafia.

But sure, let's believe the abusers instead of their victims like usual.

I'm not looking for people to believe in Maria Corina, just to not deny the reality that Venezuela is a dictatorship where freedom and democracy died a long time ago. If you're not going to believe me, believe the thousands of dark-skinned Venezuelans in your country Mexico who fled from mine.

Better yet, that means you have no excuse :D

USians are stupid, that's always a given, but I expect more from other Latin Americans.

You know for a fact I have the most common name in Spanish speaking countries. And there's more asylum seeking Venezuelans in Mexico that you can count.

Bkuesky has officially become the new Twitter, and by that I mean "the place where everyone can be extremely xenophobic towards Venezuelans"
gabrielalejandro.bsky.social
That was a nice picture, I'll give you that

Still more Venezuelan than you tho

Don't worry, once Trump turns the US into an actual dictatorship, you'll want Canada to accept you as an asylum seeker under the premise of being USian despite your name and appearance as well :)

Not much. Thats what "wont sugarcoat it" means
gabrielalejandro.bsky.social
Everyone should be reading Caracas Chronicles if you want to learn about Venezuela from actual independent Venezuelan journalists who won't sugarcoat you the hard truths about our complex reality

Everyone wants to be Luthen Rael until they see an actual Luthen Rael in real life
gabrielalejandro.bsky.social
I've been looking for this tweet since forever because it shows in a few words how open and popular xenophobia towards Venezuelans actually is.

THIS is how they see all Venezuelan asylum seekers.

Sarcasm, this is not nice and Bluesky has become my personal hell

See? This is why I hate it here.

It's always about the CIA, never about us.
gabrielalejandro.bsky.social
Oh no, it's like 2016 on Twitter all over again. They're starting to explain Venezuela with Democracy Now articles...

This is painful.

I hate it here.

I really, really do.

That's the point everyone is missing: This is not necessarily a middle finger to Trump, but rather a compromise

Extremely tempting (though also, likely, tiresomely America-centric) to read this Nobel selection as at least a partial strategic "Now what, smartass?" to Trump/Rubio:
Machado is the leader of Venezeula's opposition, so technically THEIR ally against Maduro.

VZs catching stray bullets over the Nobel thing

MCMs record on attacking VZ migrants across the Americas and her silence over their treatment in the US is horrifying, but taking your personal beef out on a VZ being like "yay" not a good look

"But she wants regime change in Venezuela!"

Yeah, I know, that's what everyone who lives under a dictatorship WANTS

Don't worry, you'll understand it once you live under one. It seems the US is very close to actually becoming the next Venezuela :D
gabrielalejandro.bsky.social
It's so nice to get in this app as Venezuela hits the news and be reminded that NO ONE cares about the atrocities committed by the dictatorship against Venezuelans, some of which are starting to be implemented by Trump on the US: Torture centers, the National Guard taking entire cities, and so on...

As the takes about the Nobel winner Maria Corina Machado are starting to pile up, I feel obligated oncr again to share this

TLDR: Americans, this is NOT about you, so please STOP trying to make it about you

See, what's mildly amusing here is that this is an *internal* Venezuela "story;" where the external global order re: the U.S. is "a factor" but it's also NOT "all about us" for a change: The parties involved are with/against whoever is currently in/out of power here in a given moment.

📣👏 The Norwegian Nobel Committee has awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.

The Committee cited her work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela.

Thank you for giving what's likely to be the most fair take about it on Bluesky
