This reply to my post about Greenland already having a US military base, and by a codified mutual agreement in 1951 can build more if it feels necessary. nails it!
Trump wants Greenland for one reason: Ego. Prestige. A legacy carved in landmass. He dreams of being the president who expanded US territory by 22%, as if a map could make up for a failed presidency. National security? Nope. History? Disposable. Greenland is a stage for his own absurd grandeur.
