Nearly 800 staff left the University of Edinburgh last year as senior management pushes a £140m savings drive

This hits precarious staff hardest

It's a great comfort to learn that senior management pay & bonuses are unaffected 😉

800 staff leave Edinburgh University amid £140m cuts drive
Bosses at the institution want to cut £90m from their annual salary bill, which unions say could result in as many as 1,400 jobs being lost.

Unite against TU Victimisation

@Unitetheunion.bsky.social doesn't tolerate the victimisation of its reps by employers. Today our members in the North West are showing what solidarity looks like.

It's time UCU ended the victimisation of Marie, our Health & Safety Officer.

Ahead of the 10 February Certification Officer hearing, I’ve written about why Ewan McGaughey and I took this route.

This is a regulatory process, not a court case.

Ewan and I will represent ourselves. UCU has hired a King’s Counsel.

To be “crystal clear” (😂) - UCU comms should (a) not attack members for exercising the right to go to the Certification Officer and (b) be entirely neutral in relation to this case - because it is our union not a personal fiefdom. Their comment proves exactly why this case needs to be heard

I’m no longer shocked about the attacks on members for wanting a fair & democratic union but the UCU comment suggests they’ve forgotten the basic requirement to represent the interests of members not those of the GS alone - which is exactly what the case is all about. Our union, our subs #ucu

The @timeshighered.bsky.social has reported that @ewanmg.bsky.social and I have applied to the Certification Officer regarding concerns over the 2024 UCU general secretary election. UCU has characterised this as “smearing”, via a spokesperson.

I’m not UCU Left member but welcome their endorsement. We need a broad diverse left who can work together and there are many good candidates here to vote for. ✊
The last 5 years have seen members’ decisions overturned, delayed, or frustrated. Jo Grady and her supporters from UCU Commons and the Campaign for UCU "Democracy" are killing our union. Another dispute with Unite UCU looms. Vote for a strong member-led alternative!
