Today I bought some relatively cheap halloween themed critters (spiders, snakes, centipedes, scorpions...) so I might try to paint them up in a slightly less toy like manner to have a few monsters, as they are all big enough to be seen as monsters by a 28mm scale miniature (or similar sized minis).

Today I decided to put my current wall sections together to see how big it all looks together. Although I certainly need to make a few more sections to have a bit more variety and make larger or different designs of fortifications, it is looking good, although they need paint

Someone once mentioned on a different website that I should try to make something like a Fallout 4 subway station since I like the game and have done a few different dioramas and to be honest I have been thinking more and more about it. Maybe one day 😀

One thing I want to do when I have the space (and potentially time and money for it) is to make a modular set of terrain tiles with different themes, like one just representing sections of trenches, while another could be a grassland and so on. Need to think of sizes though.

I am not sure if everyone is like me, but I tend to create mental wish lists for miniatures I would like to have. Some things remain dreams or drop out of that list, but lately I have been thinking about getting some of these vehicles:

I think one of my biggest regrets in terms of my collection is not getting a few more cadians before they changed to the latest kits, as the previous command squad in particular was really good in terms of bits for conversions (I have spent all bits from mine already 😐)

Another example of the end result once the keypads and screens were glued to the buildings that are currently painted. Still need to cover the rest of the wall sections with sand and get them painted though. One thing at the time 😉

Finally managed to paint the 8 screens and the 8 keypads. The colour difference on some keypads is meant to match the fact that I am going to paint the outer doors in red and the inner doors in red. Minis were used to give a rough scale reference

The screens and keypads are primed, so they should be fully painted tomorrow, but in the meantime how do people keep track of the status of their collection? I use a spreadsheet but I have seen people use online tools or apps. What is your preference?

Last of the screens for the access control keypads should be done today, so hopefully later this week or early next week I should have them painted. If it goes well enough I might retroactively add that to some of my older buildings 😀

I have been making progress on my control consoles, as you can see each keypad is quite small and hard to photograph properly, but you should be able to see nine relatively square buttons in a relatively cylindrical keypad. Not bad considering how I am making them.

Last evening I did some experiments and I think I have found a way to make some control consoles for the gates of my wall sections. I used some plastic net with square holes to make the mould for square buttons and used a cylinder to shape the "body" of the keypad.

The miniatures I have been painting lately (excluding terrain assembled more recently) were assembled in April 2024, so I am now down to less than 18 months of paint queue. It is getting there 😀

Today I painted part of my modular wall sections, including a simple wall section and a gate (the one with doors on both sides). I might need to add some control consoles to open/close the gates to give them a few more details. IG HWT fit on top with space to spare

A small diorama I made inspired by the shelters raiders have on top of buildings in Fallout 4. The sofas are furniture from a very cheap dollhouse and the tables were made with cardboard and used matches.

I painted this large rocky outcrop about a month ago. The base for the hill was a piece of styrofoam that was covered with pieces of paper, tree bark to make the rocks and a few leftover materials to make some smaller rocks and debris.

A small bunker diorama I painted back in June, which was made using a plastic cup for the bunker, clay for the ground and sandbags, as well as several types of leftover materials for the debris.

Doing a mental inventory of minis and I realised that I only have one model completely made of metal (I do have metal parts in other models), about 2 hundred models that are resin only, thousands of HIPS models and a few PVC models. What materials do you enjoy working with?

The major issue I have found while handling historical miniatures while assembling or painting is dealing with models with bayonets. Those things can be quite sharp and I am clumsy enough to hurt my fingers with them.

A few months ago I converted a cheap dollhouse into suburban terrain. It is not perfect for the usual 28mm scale soldiers I build, but it is close enough and models actually fight inside the rather simple interior. The Games Workshop mini outside is for scale purposes.

The crow part of my brain is quite powerful "Keep those shinies! Make something with them". At least sometimes those things get put to good use, so I guess it is ok 😀

Sometimes I like to do things with materials that have already served its purpose, like used matches. In this case I used them to build a set of modular trenches that can be combined in different layouts. Miniatures in the pictures are from Archon Studio.

One of the things that I will dread if I have to move to a different house is preparing all of my miniatures for transportation, especially if I need to take them in one go, as the previous times I had to move I had way less miniatures built and there are always fragile parts.
